To be able to fully understand my stories, you need to know a little bit about me.

So, a bit of my "history". I was born and raised in the papermill town of Bogalusa located in the toe of the boot which is better known as Louisiana. I graduated from LSU in Baton Rouge in physical education and recreation, later adding English to my fields of teaching. I taught school in the Atlanta, GA area for a number of years before marrying and having a family. Since my husband was in the Army, we moved all over the South. After he left the Army and finished his degree, we eventually returned to Bogalusa where I again taught for several years.

At this point in my life, teaching had become more of a headache than a reward and after being attacked and beaten by a student, I decided it was time to do something else. I had always wanted to be a police officer, but when I had finished high school, women were not welcome in that field of work. Also, Criminal Justice was a course of the future in the academic world. But now, things were different. When our town's department advertised that they were testing for the position of Radio Operator/Dispatcher, I jumped at the chance. It was a civil service position, so I took the test, finished at the top and was hired. I was too old to be a patrol officer, but there were no restrictions in the Radio Room.

I was given the opportunity of attending the police academy at LSU and took it. Out of a class of 60, I finished 2nd. The fellow who beat me out of first place did so only because he could shoot just a bit better than I could!

So, I came back to the station house to work the radio on 12 hour shifts, head up NCIC for the department and occasionally work the streets on special occasions such as parades, festivals, etc. The "fun" was about to begin!
