POST NEWSLETTER for April – September 2014

  1. MEMBERSHIP: Department of New York voted to increase Legion membership dues, by $5 at their annual Convention, held in July in Niagara Falls. This will increase the amount we are required to send to Department from $26.50 to $31.50 effective 1 January 2014. In light of the increase the Legion increase membership dues for 2014 to $35.00. All members, who are not yet “Paid Up For Life” (PUFL) and are interested can contact our Membership Chairman, David Brancheau at his email address, which is c3win8@hotmail.com or call him at (315) 771-9136.
  2. POST FINANCIAL STATUS: Since out last newsletter our financial situation has not improved, due mainly to snow removal and increased utility cost. We have continued to take action to reduce our expenses, where possible, while attempting to keep up with most of our support to veterans, children, and the community. We still are limited with the amount of money we are able to donate and to make needed repairs on the Post.
  3. Your Support is Needed: In light of the Post’s financial status, which is identified above, your support is needed. What can you do to help? The following are some of the things that all members can do to help turn our financial situation around:
    1. Attend meetings: We currently have the same hand full of members attending our membership meetings. Our Bylaws and Constitution requires 7 members to be present to have a meeting, where motions can be offered. In the last few years, we have had several occasions when we did not have 7 members present for our meetings. Another reason to attend meetings is to provide your opinions and input on how to improve the Legion’s status. We also are experiencing the same Officer’s taking the same offices year after year, which is not a good situation for any organization. Our membership meetings are held on the 3rd Tuesday of each month at 7 PM.
    2. Hold your functions at the Legion: Consider holding your functions (i.e. anniversaries, weddings, birthday parties, etc.) at the legion.
    3. Donate time and/or money;

<!--[if !supportLists]-->(1)  <!--[endif]-->Send a donation, to the above address, made out to Don Rounds Post, for any of the following projects;

-General Fund for overhead expenses (i.e. Insurance, Utilities, etc.)

       -Donate time helping out at dinners, Sunday   wings or our annual 4th July Celebration.

     d. Purchase the enclosed “Ways and Means” Tickets. You can either return the tickets stubs, with your name address and telephone number to the Post address, listed above or drop them off at the Post. As stated on the ticket the drawing will be on the 4th of July. If you need more, contact the Post.

  5. Post Website: The Post now has a website, which is https://members.tripod.com/legion_post_586_ny/. It is not yet complete, but does contain much information about the Post and it’s functions. Please check it out.
