Today my Vaios Pentium 4 Computer is 3 1/2 years old, so I decided to clean out the inside of it. I felt the rear upper part of the computer to find out how much air was flowing out of it. I turned off the computer, and un-plugged it so I could work on it. Next, I opened the plastic top cover case of the computer, by pressing the two prongs at the top of the computer in the back. Next I slid the top plastic case back a little bit from the slider holders in side, then lifted it of gently and delicately; and I put it aside.
I looked at the area of the computer fan from the inside and it was covered over in dust on the top edges of the fan blades, so I removed it, with a paper towel and Windex spray that is similar to alcohol. The dust came of in bunches, mostly. I also used que tip swabs for the fan blade surface area.
I then looked at the part in back of the fan and it was half clogged with dust on the front of the vent; so, I cleaned it off using a computer key board brush in between the fan blades. The dust came right off and stayed on the keyboard brush. I blew out the vent from the outside of the computer, and dust deposited inside than I cleaned it off. The fan and vent was all clean, again, so I put the top cover, back on.
I took off the plastic bottom side cover of the computer, by pressing the button clip at the upper part of the plastic panel that is at the side of the computer; and pulled it away, then lifted it off and I put it aside. I cleaned the bottom inside area of the computer with the keyboard brush, to clean of the loose dust, an I blew it out.
I looked at the fan inside the bottom and it was dusty, so I cleaned it off. and I put the computer cover back on.
Then I plugged the computer in, and turned the Computer on again. The fan was blowing faster, like when new, again. And, after the computer was on for a while the air that flowed out felt cooler, than it was before it was cleaned.
I cleaned the keyboard as I usually do weekly with the computer brush, and blowing it out, with the computer turned off.
I cleaned off the computer LCD display around every 2 months, with the power off, by using a cloth with a little Windex only sprayed on the cloth. Sometimes, I use computer screen moist wipes, to clean it. - 2007
