Cliffside Structures on a Ledge Overlooking Reull Vallis

- back -

Here is an interesting area, apparently incised into the cliff face just below the top of the mesa, or perhaps constructed on a naturally-occurring ledge.  The ledge terrain appears relatively flat and horizontal.

This is from the upper right corner of the last MOC photo in the Bend at Reull Vallis series.

Looking more closely, lots of interesting details come out.

The feature in the front resembles an arch. This arch would be about 42 m to the top.  An object about 14 m high could pass under the arch.

Behind and to the right of the arch is something like a dome.

On top of the dome is ... a cube with a small structure on top.  Now where have we seen this type of feature before?

We would like to enhance this picture further, but we are already near the limit of resolution.

Is there anything else interesting on this cliffside niche?

What is that shape at the far right side of the ledge?

It resembles a cube with an apparatus on top.

The same feature with additional enhancement (equalize histogram).

There's more to see on this ledge.

In this view, we darkened the gamma correction to see if we can  make out any details of the bright white ledge floor:

Well, isn't that interesting?

There appear to be several regular-shaped objects, positioned well back from the lip of the cliff.

Good engineering practice dictates locating structures a safe distance from a cliff!
