Tutor Requirements

Volunteers receive 14 hours of training before being matched with a learner. Tutoring space is available at all 24 branches and other public sites.

EACH ONE, TEACH ONE

Established in 1984 with a grant from the California State Library, the Literacy Service strives to make Sacramento County a more literate community. The Literacy Service provides free one-on-one tutoring to English speaking adults who want to improve their basic reading and writing skills. Tutoring is done by members of the community who can volunteer their time at least once a week for 1 ½ to 2 hours. Materials are provided free of charge to tutors and learners.
