The Scottsdale police chief said the public expects and should get better service than what two former officers gave in ignoring calls for backup by fellow officers and routinely falsifying daily activity logs.

"These officers were seen basically talking to each other with no intention of responding," Chief Alan Rodbell said. "And that's unforgivable."

Rodbell's comments come in response to an investigation of two officers accused of failing to perform their duties. As a result, , three police officers have left their jobs and a fourth was disciplined.

The report states Officers David Kiss and Patricia McCormack failed to perform their duties by "not responding to assist other officers when needed." McCormack, who is also accused of filing false logs, resigned Friday.

Kiss admitted to hearing the calls for backup but said he and McCormack "chose not to help." The report also states Kiss had sex while on duty and falsified department forms. Kiss also admitted, the report said, to doctoring the daily log to make himself look busy when radio calls went out. He resigned Thursday.

Sgt. Dan Dubois failed to supervise Kiss, McCormack and a third officer, according to the report, and the 20-year employee retired in lieu of a demotion last week. Lt. Steve Yturralde was disciplined for failing to supervise Dubois.
