Detective Billy Soza, 53, submitted his resignation Wednesday from a Maricopa County jail where he is being held, police said. Soza's wife told police she shot him Monday night in self-defense after Soza held her captive in their bedroom, put his service weapon in her mouth three times and stepped on one of her breasts, where a lump was surgically removed earlier that day. Pamela Soza, 44, reportedly said her husband had been beating her for the past 20 years and that he wanted to kill her. She was not arrested.
