Freeway in Calif. Shut Down Over Package

NORWALK, Calif. (AP) -- A suspicious package was found Friday at a commuter rail station, prompting evacuation of the facility and traffic-snarling closures of adjacent freeways in southeast Los Angeles County. No explosives were found.

The package was found shortly before 11 a.m. on the platform of the Green Line station, which is located just east of Interstate 605, said sheriff's Deputy Oscar Butao.

Traffic was diverted off the 605 and the eastbound car pool lane of the 105 Freeway, said California Highway Patrol Officer Francisco Villalobos.

The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority's Green Line is a surface light-rail route running east-west across the southern end of the county between Norwalk and Redondo Beach, with a stop near Los Angeles International Airport. Most of the route is on the median of the 105 Freeway.
