Tyranny of the minority! 4% of Phoenix population forces their will on 96% They like to tell us that democracy is when the majority of people all get together and decide to do something. But thats 100% rubbish. Here a minority of 4 percent of Phoenix is forcing the other 96 percent of the population to pay for these expensive bonds. In todays Republic it said the 7 Phoenix bonds passed with from 49,834 to 57,715 yes votes for each bond. The population of Phoenix in 2004 was about 1,416,055 people. That means between 3.5% and 4.0% population who voted yesterday for these bonds will force the other 96% to 96.5% of the population to pay for these bonds. They like to tell us that democracy is when the majority of people all get together and decide to do something. But thats 100% rubbish. Here a minority of 4 percent of Phoenix is forcing the other 96 percent of the population to pay for these expensive bonds. I guess thats why democracy should be called Tyranny of the minority! I wonder what the vote would have looked like if the city got every Phoenix employee to vote for these bonds. After all Phoenix City employees will be one of the main benefactors of this government pork. I did find one number that said that Phoenix had 13,164 employees. If thats the case Phoenix city employees could have accounted for a maximum of 23% to 26% of the yes votes. Of course that doesnt include the Maricopa County, Arizona State, and other local government employees such as school district employees that live in Phoenix who may have had an interest in the bonds passing to create more government jobs.
