A slight gap in air travel security

Mar. 20, 2006 12:00 AM

On a recent trip to Atlanta, a friend had his wallet stolen just minutes before having to catch a plane back to Phoenix.

This posed a dilemma, since he had no form of identification whatsoever. (Note that he is originally from South Africa, has a thick accent and very Middle Eastern looks.) Imagine his surprise when, for $40 at an airport kiosk, he got his picture taken and stapled to an affidavit acknowledged by his wife who was traveling with him and was able to board his flight home without delay.

So much for homeland security!
