Hit-run trial has whiff of persecution

Apr. 5, 2006 12:00 AM

The prosecution of Reem Bishara, the Kuwaiti woman charged with leaving the scene of a fatal traffic accident, has the smell of "let's beat up on any Arab we can get our hands on" ("Defendant to be tried 2nd time in hit-run case, Saturday").

The 7-1 jury split is probably about the ratio of sentiment in the electorate, however. Are the judge and the prosecutor both up for re-election?

Everyone admits Bishara's car was not involved in the death, so come on, your honor. Scrape up the guts to dismiss this nonsense. The prosecutor has an excuse, advocacy, but you are supposed to be objective, neutral, a protector of the weak and the politically persecuted.

America is a nation of laws not mobs posing as juries. We Americans must strive to show the world that we are a just, enlightened people who give everyone a fair shake. So how about pitching in, your honor, and help show the world that no one gets stoned over here because of group hate-think.
