Life Cycle

The following section is on the lifecycle of Ferns.

The reproductive cycle consists of two generations, sexual and asexual. The asexual or sporophtye, generation represents the fern plant as it is commonly known. Next is the steps in the fern lifecycle.

First the fern produces spores in structures call sporangia on the underside of the fronds. These clusters of sporangia from brown spots called sori. These spores are produced through meiosis and are monoploid.
When the sporangia explodes or burst open tiny little spores released and scatter every where. These spores are carried by wind. In most cases the spores are carried very far away from the parent plant.
Then these spores grow into heart shaped gametophytes. Them being monoploid.
Through mitosis the gametophtye produces eggs and sperm.
Finally the sperm swim toward the egg. Until it reaches it and the egg becomes fertilized. The egg being diploid.
Soon it divides by mitosis and turned into a new fern sporophtye.
This process continues generation after generation.
