some thoughts
Mood:  chatty
Topic: TM
Since we are all connected to each other through the unified field as Quantum Mechanics (and TM) tell us, then one person's anger is everyone's anger. It's localized at one point, but everyone feels it. Think of an earthquake. If the epicenter is in Japan their buildings will be razed, but the meters in California will still register the earthquake. In the same way, anger will have the largest effect on the person harboring it, however, it will affect everyone else in some small way. This is why some have suggested that positive attitudes and TM could go a long way towards world peace. The greater the number of people at peace, the greater the cumulative effect on humanity as a whole. I have to develop this more and see how it fits into other belief systems that I have, but I didn't want to forget it.

Strange Sync
Mood:  happy
Topic: TM
It's a fairly common fact that analog systsems in the same room will sync up. You may have heard of the examples:
1) Place two grandfather clocks in the same room and wait a certain amount of time. After a while the pendulums will be swinging in sync with each other despite the fact that they were probably at different speeds before
2) Two women spend an inordinate amount of time together (best case - they live together) their menstrual cycles will sync up
and there are more examples, but I think you get the point. Well, a couple of days ago I was sitting on the couch doing some TM when suddenly I became aware of the fact that my breathing AND my heart rate had synched up with the clock that was ticking in the room. It was a very weird experience to hear my heart beat along with the clock AND to exhale and inhale to the beat as well. Then surprisingly even though I was away that it was going on, this continued for another few minutes before my awareness disrupted the connection. If anyone's every experienced something like that, don't hessitate to share your experiences.

TM - meditation about nothing
Mood:  chatty
Now Playing: "Yoda" - Weird Al
Topic: TM
So transcendental meditation is kinda like Seinfeld in that it's a meditation about nothing. What does that mean? Quite simply that instead of focusing one's thoughts on a mantra, object or noise as in regular meditation, TM is about quieting your mind. You just don't think aobut anything and then it happens. Of course, it's more involved than that but I'm contractually obligated not to reveal the technique. Anyway, so by doing this one's mind reaches a deeper level of consciousness than if he (or she) was sleeping. Ever since it first came into America in the 60s countless scientists have done studies on it. Apparently brain wave patterns change in a way not seen with other forms of consciousness. Additionally, by being in such a deep state it allows one to clear out stresses from the body in a much better way than can be achieved through sleep. Also, for some reason it releases some chemicals that help the rejuvinate the body. So, all in all it's pretty cool.

For deeper information check out some of Chopra's books or books written by the Maharishi who came up with the technique.
