The Big News
Mood:  celebratory
Now Playing: "Let's Get Married" - Jagged Edge
Topic: engagement/wedding
So the big news that I hinted at earlier today is that I got engaged! Of course, I knew it would happen, being the guy, but that didn't stop things from being exciting. I'd been planning it for a few months and had gotten my specific plan down about 2-3 weeks ago. Here's how it went...

At 6:45a my alarm clock went off and I quickly turned it off. I knew that I had to get up quickly if I wanted my plan to work, but I still lingered in bed for five minutes. Finally, I took out the clothes that I had prepared for this moment so that I could get ready quickly. I pulled on my undershirt and dress pants and then put on my dress shirt. Then I made sure that I had the right mix of "Let's Get Married" on my PDA and put the ring into my pocket. Grabbing my tie and jacket I went into the bathroom to have a mirror to adjust my tie. Once I was all dressed I took a deep breath and left the bathroom.

I went over to my girlfriend's place and opened her bedroom door. Then I called out her name and as she turned over and opened her eyes I turned on the music asked her to marry me. It took her a few seconds to fully register what was happening and those seconds seemed like hours to me. Time almost literally slowed down as I waited for her response. Finally it came, "yes!"

After all of the tension it was amusing to see her try to get out of the tangle of her sheets to both hug me and receive the ring. But the entire time her eyes were focused on the ring that would soon be on her finger.

Finally she wrung herself free and we hugged for what seemed like an awfully long time for someone still on his knees but it was still really awesome. Then she put her hand out for me to put the ring on her finger.

It was my turn to be the dazed one. I had been waiting for this moment for so long (since we fell in love a little under two years ago) that I forgot that it was I who was supposed to put the ring on her finger. When I finally did, it was as though a huge weight had been lifted.

We hugged some more and then we had to get ready for our first classes of the day.

Thanks to Vinny and the other girls who gave me input on whether this would be as romantic for a girl as I thought it would be.

Below are some pictures of the ring for those who are too far away to see it in person.
