WHY ARE THEY CALLED DOLLAR WATCHES??

The name "dollar watch" originated with the Ingersoll Company around the turn of the century. The companies founder, Robert H. Ingersoll wanted to make a watch available to the working man that cost about  an average days wage. In a time when watches were only affordable to the well off, this was a revolutionary idea. The companies slogan, "the watch that made the dollar famous" stuck. Afterward, any inexpensive watch that retailed for around a dollar was known as a dollar watch.  Other companies such as Westclox, Ingraham, and New Haven made watches with the same idea in mind. These watches were not as accurate or as well crafted as the high end models such as Elgin, Rockford, Hamilton, and Waltham. However, they were affordable, durable, and kept reasonable time. For a working man of the time, that was all that was needed.

The Dollar Watch Company is the only company, as far as we know , who services and sells only those watches made by Westclox, Ingraham, Ingersoll, and New Haven as well as a few other dollar watch brands. Here you wont find any Rockfords, Elgins, Hamiltons, or Walthams. because we stick with what we know, we can offer the highest quality of service for these brands. And at a much more affordable price! Most repairs can be done for under $40.00 per watch. Think of us as your "personal" dollar watch repairmen!
