MPC Rules of Play
1. The format for the
Championship is 18 Hole Match Play per USGA Match Play Rules, except as superseded by printed Local
Golf Course or Special SSBGC Tournament Rules. ALSO SEE #4 & #5 below.
2. Matches will be “made level” by giving
any difference in handicap strokes to the higher handicap player on the toughest (1,2,3, etc.) handicapped
holes. 3. In the event of a tie in a MPC Round, the winner
will be determined as follows:
a.) 1st Tie-breaker: Player
with the lowest 18 hole net score wins.
b.) 2nd Tie-breaker: Player with lowest "back nine" net score wins.
c.) 3rd Tie-breaker: Player with the most net pars or better in the round. 4. In
strict match play, there are some rules that differ from stroke play. Since
this Tournament is a combination of Stroke Play and Match Play please abide by Stroke Play
Rules as per the USGA. Please abide by proper golf
etiquette when the scenario presents itself but as in all SSBGC Tournaments, PLAY READY GOLF AND KEEP UP THE PACE! 5. Do not “pick up” on any hole. There
are no “gimmie putts”. Putt Out! Failure
to finish out a hole may result in loss of hole in Match Play and disqualification
from the stroke play tournament and all side prizes.
If you are unable to get a clear ruling on how to proceed in a particular situation while on
the course, you may invoke the “second ball” rule and get a ruling following the completion of
your round. RULES DISPUTES Any
dispute arising from the application of these Rules or any other Rule will be settled by
the SSBGC Board.
Tips
on How to Record Score In Match Play Golf (Recommended) Step 1 Please
use a separate course scorecard when scoring the Match Play Round. When writing down the names of the
players on your scorecard, leave an empty line between your name and your opponent's. You'll
use this line to keep track of who is ahead, or "up," in the match. Step 2 The first player to win a hole is said to be "1 up." On the empty
line on the scorecard, write "plus 1" next to the hole number. As subsequent holes are won and lost, write
"plus 2," "plus 3" and so on. Step
3 If both players have the same score on a hole, the hole is said to be "halved."
The score does not change--the side that was up after the previous hole remains ahead by the same
amount. Step 4 If the match is even after a given hole, write "TIE, next to the hole. A match that is all square
after 18 holes will be decided by the tie-breaker rules above. Step 5 The match is over if you lead by more holes than are remaining
to be played. For example, if you are playing 18 holes and are 4 up after 15 holes, there are only three
holes left to play and your opponent can't catch up. You would be the winner by a score of "4 and
3." Please record the name of the winner and how the match finished (e.g. “3&2”,
or “1UP”) on the back of the SSBGC score cards. This
becomes the official record. NOTE*** Still play out round as there are Tournament prizes for
stroke play in every flight as in every Tournament.
