Breakdown rake at Wankaner

Image59.jpg (73035 bytes) An absolute minimum safety requirement of any railway system is the breakdown rake or the 'BD' rake.  This rake consists of a 35 tonne steam crane, tool van, flat cars to carry rails and coaches to carry the crew to the accident site. Note the cloth covered headlight.

Note the steam cylinder, the ring gear for the circular motion of the crane's jib and the attitude indicator to record the angle of the elevation of the jib.  Note the headlight in this view.
