Democrat Capuano Endorsed by the Massachusetts Reserve Police Federation, Inc.

Somerville Mayor Michael Capuano's candidacy for Congress in the Eighth District continues to garner union support as the Massachusetts Reserve Police Federation announced their endorsement of his candidacy.

"Our organization feels that you best represent our views and will continue to do so while in Washington. At our meeting. . . our executive board was pleased with your honesty and integrity shown throughout the evening," stated organization Executive Director Anthony DeFrancesco Jr. and Secretary Michael Connors Jr.

"I am grateful for the support of the Massachusetts Reserve Police Federation, Inc., who have chosen to stand with me as I fight for the working men and women of this district," said Mike Capuano.

Capuano's candidacy has also been endorsed by the Retired State, County and Municipal Employees Association of Massachusetts, the Massachusetts Police Association, the United Steelworkers of America Local 12004, the Somerville Firefighters Local 1240, both the Maintenance Workers and the Clerical Workers of the Somerville Housing Authority National Conference of Firemen and Oilers, Local 3, SEIU, AFL-CIO, the Somerville Housing Authority Directors Union, SEIU Local 254, AFL-CIO, CLC and the Somerville Housing Authority Public Safety Officers, Teamsters Local #25.

A leading urban environmentalist, Capuano has won numerous awards, including recognition for creating the state's first locally based environmental strike force.

Last year, Capuano authored the state's toughest local Ethics and Financial Disclosure Ordinance. The City of Somerville's bond rating has been upgraded four times since Capuano took office in 1990 and Somerville taxpayers enjoy one of the lowest property tax rates in Greater Boston.

A recent Boston Herald/WCVB-TV poll placed Capuano second among the ten candidates vying for the seat, within striking distance of the current front runner.

A graduate of Dartmouth College and Boston College Law School, Capuano is married to Barbara Teebagy, C.P.A. and has two children, Michael and Joseph.

Capuano a Top Fund Raiser In 8th District Run

For the reporting period beginning on April 1st and ending June 30th, five term Somerville Mayor Michael Capuano raised $251,000 from more than 800 individuals. This show of fundraising strength is more noteworthy since Capuano was one of the last to enter the race and did not begin fund-raising until mid April, when the Capuano for Congress Committee was formed.

Based on current information, this appears to be the most money raised by any candidate during this reporting period.

"This is a campaign that's clicking on all cylinders. I have the leading organization in the race, a nationally recognized media consultant and pollsters, and we have now clearly broken out of the pack in fundraising," says Mayor Mike Capuano. Every major poll has placed Capuano in the top tier of candidates. Capuano's own polling shows him in a statistical tie for second place and steadily moving up.

Capuano's candidacy has been endorsed by the Retired State, County and Municipal Employees Association of Massachusetts, the Massachusetts Police Association, the United Steelworkers of America Local 12004, the Somerville Firefighters Local 1240, the Somerville Housing Authority Maintenance Workers of the National Conference of Firemen and Oilers, Local 3, SEIU and the Somerville Housing Authority Clerical Workers of the National Conference of Firemen and Oilers, Local 3, SEIU, AFL-CIO.

Capuano has a strong record of results on issues such as education, the environment, ethics in government, fiscal responsibility and affordable housing.

Democrat Capuano Formally Announces Candidacy For Congress in the 8th District

Capuano: The Difference is Results

Stressing his strong record of results on issues such as education, fiscal responsibility, ethics in government and the environment, five term Somerville Mayor Michael Capuano formally announced his candidacy for Congress in the Eighth District today at the Healey Elementary School Construction site.

Capuano stated that there are at least two differences between him and the other candidates. He can point to specific, positive results in the fields of education, fiscal matters, ethics and other issues of concern to working men and women. Capuano has also been living with and fighting for working families over the years.

"While the other candidates were off pursuing their careers or making their fortunes, I was here, in the streets, fighting to improve the lives of working people," Capuano stated.

Kickoff

Capuano launched his candidacy at the Healey Elementary School Construction site, one of six schools that have been or are being revitalized due to his initiative. Under Capuano's leadership, Somerville has one of the lowest class sizes in Greater Boston at an average of 19 students per classroom. Capuano also instituted an optional full day kindergarten for every child, which will be available in the Fall.

"Every candidate will talk about education, but I am the only one who has taken personal responsibility for actually improving education. The positive results of that commitment are measurable," stated Capuano.

Capuano's record shows that he will be a strong advocate for educational issues. "When I tell you I'll fight for more federal funding for new and safer schools, when I talk about ways to make college more affordable for working people, voters will have more than just words to judge me by. They will have my record of results," stated Capuano.

Capuano also emphasized his record of fiscal management. The City of Somerville's bond rating has been upgraded four times since Capuano took office in 1990 and Somerville taxpayers enjoy one of the lowest property tax rates in Greater Boston. "When you hear me and all the other candidates talk about fiscal responsibility in Washington, remember there is a difference. I am the one who took personal responsibility for the fiscal health of my community. I am the one with measurable results," Capuano said.

Last year, Capuano authored the state's toughest local Ethics and Financial Disclosure Ordinance. A leading urban environmentalist, Capuano has won numerous awards, including recognition for creating the state's first locally based environmental strike force. Capuano's innovative hands-on approach has led to the reduction of crime in his community. Somerville is also home to a nationally recognized high school violence mediation program.

"On these issues and more, the difference between me and all the other candidates is real. I have delivered actual, measurable, meaningful results that have improved the lives of average working people," Capuano continued.

To date, Capuano's candidacy for Congress has been formally endorsed by the Massachusetts Police Association, the Somerville Firefighters Local 1240 and the Somerville Housing Authority Maintenance Workers of the National Conference of Firemen and Oilers, Local 3, SEIU. A campaign headquarters has opened at 219 Elm Street in Somerville.

A graduate of Dartmouth College and Boston College Law School, Capuano is married to Barbara Teebagy, CPA and has two children, Michael and Joseph.

A leading urban environmentalist, Capuano has won numerous awards, including recognition for creating the state's first locally based environmental strike force. Capuano's innovative hands-on approach has led to the reduction of crime in his community. Somerville is also home to a nationally recognized high school mediation program.
