Vorta

Civilization from the Gamma Quadrant and members of the Dominion. The Vorta control the deadly Jem'Hadar warriors on behalf of the Founders. To do this, the Vorta controlled the supply of the drug Ketracel-White, which the Jem'Hadar needed to survive. It is said that aeons ago, the Vorta were small, timid apelike forest dwellers who lived in hollowed-out trees. One day a group of Vorta hid a Founder shape shifter who was being pursued by solid hunters. So grateful was the Founder that he promised to the Vorta that they would one day be transformed into powerful beings and that they would become an important part of an interstellar empire. The Founders did as they promised and began genetically engineering the Vorta to assist them in ruling the Dominion. This engineering included a compulsion to worship the Founders as gods. They reproduce by cloning, and are immune to most kinds of poison. Being genetically engineered, they are only given skills and abilities that the Founders deem necessary for their assigned role in the Dominion. For instance, they do not have an aesthetic sense and are tone-deaf - they have very good hearing, but poor eyesight - they have a limited sense of taste. All clones are implanted with a termination device that they are expected to kill themselves with should they get captured by the enemy.
