Dominion

Powerful alliance of planetary groups in the Gamma Quadrant, established two millenia ago by the reclusive Founders who controlled hundreds of planets.  Their power was brutally exercised by the Jem'Hadar  insuring compliance with the Founders rule.  Another prominent member of the Dominion is the genetically engineered race, the Vorta.  In 2373, led by the Founders and the Jem'Hadar , the Dominion signed an alliance with the Cardassian Union and began a ruthless conflict to take over the Alpha Quadrant, known as the Dominion War.  They later surrended in 2375, however, to the Federation Alliance and withdrew all forces to the Gamma Quadrant.
