Music is an integral part of human nature. It starts flowing out whenever a person is carefree. Through a hum or a whistle of his favorite song. No matter how others react to it. If you ever have spent your time in hostels -during your school or college days- you may recall how bathrooms become la opera houses.
It is said that when a person sings he cannot think
ill of others. That is a way to healthy living, isn't it ?
If it is so with average human beings, the music coming from a gifted musician can take our souls to greater heights.
The classical music - in India - is part of divine worship. There are people who pray and coax gods through music. Meera, Tulsidas, Kabir, Purandardas, Tukaram, Namadev, Thiagaraj, Dixitar, Shyama shastri...... the list is endless. Their songs not only reflect their devotion but also mixes many a time an element of humor or anger or despair all in their conversation with their favorite divine form.
Today these are of great literary value. Their compositions when rendered by master musicians like Pt. Bhimsen Joshi acquire a separate dimension than what we can comprehend in a mere print form. One has to experience it to realize the uniqueness of Indian classical music.
