Sketch Pad
Black
& white photography has an incredible charm which
many professional
photographers tend to acknowledge. The varying degrees of gray creating
depth and capturing life in its true spirit is not dampened by the emergence of
color photography. This is because the absence of color prevents
distraction from the main subject. The pencil sketch here is inspired by a
photograph by a famous photographer T.S.Nagarajan. The orthodoxy of an old
Indian lady emerging from the river Ganges after a holy dip held such a
spontaneity the urge to capture it in the sketch pad could not be
controlled.
A sketch of a temple sculpture in indian ink is no match in capturing the
divinity exuding in those monolith granite stones in hundreds of south Indian
temples. The riches accumulated in the kings' exchequer were usefully spent to
create thousands of artisans working for generations. Think of this in today's
context. When people are engaged with useful work it does not permit the youth
energy to go astray, in counter productive activities, harming the
society as we find now a days in almost all
countries.
The sculpture depicts Lord Shiva with his consort Shakti or Parvati
