Woodmere Elementary School is located just west of the Harvey Canal in the Woodmere subdivision in Jefferson Parish. It is a large suburban school on the westbank of New Orleans housing approximately 850 students with a faculty and staff totaling more than 60 members. The school consists of one main building with three portable buildings and a large covered pavilion used for recreational purposes.
Woodmere Elementary was built in 1984 and designed as a modern facility with the most current trends in education being used at the time. Woodmere Elementary has closed circuit cable television, computers in every classroom, a library, and a computer lab.
Woodmere Elementary has a large faculty consisting of 31 regular education teachers, three special education teachers, one full-time speech therapist, two school-based social workers, one gifted education teacher who services Pre-K through fifth grade, one itinerent visual arts and one theater instructor for identified talented students, an intinerent adapted physical education instructor, and two extension teachers who work in regular classrooms to help reduce the pupil/teacher ratio, one ESOL teacher, one HOST teacher, and 6 assistants.
