History

Donna Vargas loved clothing and fashion. She was intrigued with the endless variety of ways of getting dressed. To her it was a challenge to do this and "live on a budget." She was a dedicated "thriftier" and compulsively made the rounds to all the thrift stores.

Early in her career, she realized there were some things she absolutely did not like, such as typing, and knew she didn't want to be a secretary.

With these fundamentals, and with a little help from her family and friends, she opened the Buffalo Trading Post in January of 1984 and started buying, selling, and trading clothing items and accessories on consignment. The store was housed in a 600-square foot space that had been an old Western Union telegraph office on a side street near the university. Two years later, she expanded into the space occupied by a former malt shop. This was the beginning of our growth that continues today.
