My  College Years

I attended Three Rivers Community College in Poplar Bluff Missouri. I started at a late age of 39 in the spring of 1990.  My major was Business Management, because it looked easy enough for me to handle.  Why I say that is because, my grades in High School was really bad, I just barely passed. Since I knew this, I took it real easy and took 4 subjects per semester. I also stretched it out to 4 years.

I still knew that I had some week spots but I wasn't for sure of how strong my strong points was.  As you will see my best work was in mathematics and computers.  Here in the following is my college transcript: (click on the links to read it.)

If you notice, the fall 1992 (I did not get trans- pertation funding so I did not get to go that semester.)

Look at my grades, I did quite well I think.  Look where I took Advertising over, you tell me what happened.  In the Fall of 92 things didn't go too well.  Not only did I miss one semester, the next semester it showed on my grades.  I feel bad about showing those bad grades to people , but they exist.  The Fundamentals of math course is a pass or fail course, no grade points but it does give credit hours.

AWARDS

The following awards I received in college:
Alumni Association Card
Award for Excellent Resume
Certificate in Computer Information Systems
Associates Applied Science in Business Management
Certificate for being signed up with InterTech Inc.

I finished up with 78 credit hours.  Which was enough to be able to apply for a Sub teachers certificate (click on link to see certificate) to sub in a high school or grade school.  Which I did do for 4 years there after I graduated college.  Not once did i get to teach.

The award for best resume is for my two page resume that I put to gather to help me find a job.  Resume page 1 & resume page 2.  I did have to use that the semester that I did not get to attend.  I got some good special bond paper and printed out over 100 copies which I handed out.  From that 100 copies, I received only 2 interview.  Which they told me that they were not interested at the moment in hiring anyone, but they did want to interview me.  It was very disappointing that my percentage of interviews should have been better.  As a mater of fact, I thought that I should had at least 5 job offerings.

I was shooting for a good 3.0 or better grade point average. With the one bad semester that I got the D's in, it hurt my grade point average.  I finished up with a good grade point average of 2.808.  I guess for a failing high school graduate, those grade points aren't bad at all.  I also got an Alumni Association card two years in a roll.

To bring your attention on one course that stands out, Advertising.  If you look at Spring 91 you will see an F. And then on Spring 92  you will see a B.  Don't ask, for I don't know.  I don't think that my test grades was that much better.  I do give credit to the add that I produced that was picked for the news paper.

In Spring 93, may have been a bad semester, but I should have got an A in Computer Operation Systems.  The reason for this is that I wanted to see if I knew what I knew.  I did not open the book.  All tests was from memory of what I have taught myself.

One course which I got credit for I did not attend any class, and that was Advanced Basic Programming.  I knew that I was good in programming in Basic.  I seen where I could take the advantage and get more credit hours and a higher grade point average.  Another reason I did not attend class, is because the college did not offer the course anymore.  The new course was Quick Basics.  Thanks to Mr. Hicks for letting me take this course on my own.

I must say, I did have some good teachers all the time that I attended college.  The time I spent in college was grate, I enjoyed it very much.  To attend any more college it would be for self gratification.  The thought has crossed my mind a few times.

I hope that you have enjoyed my college times that I shared with you.

I want to thank all of the teachers for helping this old man through college.  Mr. DePriest, Mr. Wilkerson both head up the Marketing Management courses.  Mr. Hicks who headed up the computer courses.  I did have a favorite long redheaded female teacher that taught computer. Thanks to all of you that put your trust in me.

P.S.    Don't think it was a waste just because I didn't get a good paying job.  For there were more reasons than I knew at the time that prohibited me from ever getting a job.
