Our kids have been racing since 1990. They've competed with one to three dogs and the mileage ranges from 1/4 to 7 miles. The type of races they run are called sprints. The dogs are expected to and are trained to lope the entire way. Two of our daughters, Rebekah and Sierra, started racing when they were 2 1/2 years old. We have aquired and bred to only top Alaskan sled dogs for this purpose. These dogs must be fast, but also friendly and outgoing around children. We usually name litters after Disney movies like Beauty & The Beast, and The Lion King. For instance, we have a Simba, Jafar, & Maurice. The girls really enjoy this. The big races for them are: The Jr. World Championship in Anchorage, The Jr. Eagle River Classic in Eagle River, & The Aurora Jr. Championships in Big Lake, etc. The prizes are usually trophies, medallions, ribbons, harnesses, collars, other dog gear, other donated items, and bragging rights! Rachel, Jasmine, Rebekah, & Sierra have been very successful, usually placing in the top 5, and winning many championships.See the kids race record here.
