Living in a Tangled Skein

Chapter Three

Hiei searched around for the redhead to cuddle with his hand, patting the futon to no avail, so he opened his eyes. “Kurama?” he called, but the redhead was nowhere in sight. Hiei rubbed his eyes and got out of the futon in his yukata, tying the obi while walking out to look for Kurama.

The girls had just came in from a morning jog directed by Yuusuke. “Have you seen Kurama?” Hiei asked Yuusuke. The latter blinked. “He’s in the kitchen, why?” the guy asked. Hiei shook his head and went towards the kitchen with Yume and Ayami close behind without the Jaganshi’s knowledge.

Hiei walked his way to the kitchen and entered it, shutting the door behind him. The girls pouted. Ayami pulled open a bit so they could peep and eavesdrop on both of them.

“Ohayou ne, Kurama!” Hiei greeted the redhead. Kurama merely uttered a low “Hn,” and resumed with the chopping of some vegetables. “Dou iu? Did I do something wrong?” Hiei asked. Kurama shook his head. “Then?” Hiei asked. “Then what?” Kurama asked.

“Why are you giving me a cold shoulder?” Hiei asked. “No I’m not,” Kurama answered. “Then why didn’t you make love to me last night as you promised you would!?” Hiei nearly shouted. There was still no reply from Kurama. “And you didn’t wake me up today and give me a good morning kiss!!”

  The girls nearly fainted.

Suddenly the door was yanked open and Hiei stormed through it, oblivious to the girls standing next to it. Both looked back at Kurama who finally slammed the chopping knife on the board.

He turned around and ran after Hiei.

“Hiei!” Kurama called after the youkai. Hiei didn’t stop but Kurama caught up to him. “I’m sorry…” he turned the youkai around and hugged the Jaganshi pressing the back of Hiei’s head gently on the crook of his neck. “I’m sorry,” he said softly, blowing in Hiei’s ears. Hiei wrapped his arms around Kurama and bit his neck until he felt salty blood stain his taste buds. “Make love to me now,” Hiei said softly, or rather pleaded. Kurama nodded and carried the Jaganshi.

Kurama locked the door and threw Hiei on the futon. His hair was tied in a ponytail and the redhead leaned down to kiss the fire demon. Hiei responded and pulled Kurama’s body towards his, rubbing his growing erection with Kurama’s equally enlarging rod.

“Hiei… eien ni boku no bebi…” Kurama uttered and kissed the han-koorime passionately.

“Play basketball?” Hiei blinked. Kurama nodded and turned to Yuusuke. “Yuusuke, give me 5 minutes to explain to Hiei how to play basketball,” Kurama hollered.

“He doesn’t know?” Riko asked. “Then how can he play with us?” Yume asked. Yuusuke smirked. “Don’t underestimate him,” he told the girls. “Yeah, he could slam dunk,” Ayami giggled. “Don’t be so mean!” Shina chortled.

Hanaya came with the ball followed by Yuuki. “Get ready,” she nodded.

Hiei came over with Kurama and smiled. “Do you really know how to play basketball?” Riko asked the Jaganshi. Hiei tied the ward on his forehead and spat. “Try me,” he spoke. Suddenly Kurama swatted the boy’s head. “No spitting. Bad manners,” he mumbled.

Hiei rubbed his head and pouted.

It was the girl’s team against the Urameshi team.

Keiko threw the ball in the air and Kuwabara jumped up to take the ball. He passed it over to Hiei. “Kurama!” the guy called up and Kurama jumped to get the ball. He bounced the ball two times and aimed the ball with a 3-point throw.

 ‘Preeeet’

Keiko blew the whistle. “Urameshi, 3 points!” she exclaimed. “Damn! Didn’t knew they were this good!” the girls heaved for air. “Don’t underestimate,” Hiei grinned as he stepped back to his position.

This time, Hiei took the ball and evaded the girl’s 2-1-2 defensive zone alone and did a dunk as well. “Haha!” he laughed.

After half an hour of playing, the score was 120 – 0. Yes, it was disappointing.

 Keiko sighed.

“I didn’t knew he was so good!” reasoned Yume. “It’s your fault!” Riko blamed Ayami. “Me? I thought it was you who said that he didn’t knew how to play?” they were fighting.

Hiei laid on Kurama’s lap. “I really didn’t knew how to play, did you know that Kurama?” Hiei asked. Kurama nodded. “Of course I do… But I also know that my baby learns fast!” he smiled. Hiei stood up and waved at Kurama. “I’m going to laugh at those girls,” he walked over to them.

“It’s okay… just 120-0. Try harder. Don’t disappoint your teacher,” Hiei pointed at Keiko and leaned closer to the girls to whisper something. “You really haven’t seen her angry yet,” he giggled.

  The girls nodded.

  It was the forth day.

The girls looked at Kurama as he put rice in their bowls. The redhead was quiet. “Maybe it’s about Hiei-san?” Yume suggested to Ayami. “I saw someone talk to Kurama-san yesterday night in the garden. But where is Hiei anyway?” Riko asked.

“Girls,” Keiko clapped her hands to get their attention. They all looked at her. “Tomorrow I will arrange another match against the boys. Be prepare, get enough sleep,” Keiko smiled. “Hai,” they all replied.

After finishing his duty, Kurama walked to the door. “You’re not eating, Kurama?” Yuusuke asked. Kurama paused. “I don’t feel well. You people go on,” he uttered as he slipped out the door silently.

“What’s up with Kurama? Did he had a fight with Hiei?” Kuwabara asked. “I dunno,” Yuusuke shrugged. “I saw some weird creature talking to Kurama-san yesterday,” Riko stated. “What kind of creature?” Yuusuke asked. “Well, not that tall, green in color, big mouth though,” she remembered.

Yuusuke frowned. “The busybody youkai?” Yuusuke guessed. Botan opened her book and flipped through the pages. “Here it is,” she pointed. Yuusuke looked at her book but couldn’t read those ancient Reikai words. “It reports thing to people. The problem is who sent it to him?” Botan said thoughtfully.

Keiko sighed. “Well, girls you can all go back to your rooms. Get a good night sleep,” Keiko ushered them out of the dining hall. The girls went out of the room and headed straight to the washrooms. Hanaya was last and when she came out of the room, everyone else had left it. “Left me alone,” she pouted.

Then she saw Kurama sitting by himself on a swing at the back of the garden. Hanaya sighed and started walking towards him. :… Maybe I could talk to him… …: she thought suddenly.

Then before she could take another step to walk through the bush towards Kurama, a shadow surpassed her and landed in between her and Kurama. She quickly paused and stayed behind the bush.

“Kurama,” Hiei uttered, putting his sword away. No answer. “Ne, Kurama…” Hiei called again as he approached the boy. Hiei stood in front of Kurama and blinked. “You alright Kurama?” Hiei asked.

Kurama bit his lips, he couldn’t bring himself to even look at Hiei.

Flashback…

Kurama was taking in the washings from the line when a youkai visited him. “Genki, Youko Kurama?” it greeted. Kurama frowned. “What do you want?” Kurama narrowed his eyes. He knew these kind of youkai were harmless but it’s bad to cross their path. They tell stories. True stories… stories that could leave a scar in you.

The youkai giggled. “Guess what?” he smirked. “I don’t want to hear your stories,” Kurama turned and walked away. “Even if it’s about Hiei?” the youkai smiled. He knew his catch. Kurama paused. Hiei had disappeared himself after the day when they had a match with the girls. Did something happen to him?

Kurama turned around as the youkai laughed. “He’s alright… with Mukuro now… And if you want, I can tell you what they did. They weren’t fighting and they weren’t practicing… what do you think both of them were doing, Kurama-san?” the youkai hinted the redhead. Kurama turned around. “I trust my Hiei. He wouldn’t not do such things with Mukuro!” Kurama raged himself.

“Well, Hiei wouldn’t do what you told him not to. But did you told him not to do that particular thing?” The green youkai chortled. Kurama closed his eyes. “Uruse!” He walked away. “You can hate me… but I tell the truth,” the green youkai vanished.

  End of flashback…

“Kurama-chan…” Hiei got down on his knees so he could look at Kurama. He blinked when he saw Kurama was trying to suppress his tears. “Kurama? Why are you crying?” his hands reach out to touch those red tresses when Kurama pushed the hand away.

Hanaya blinked. This was one scene she wouldn’t expect from Kurama.

Hiei blinked as Kurama stood up, his eyes hidden behind his long fringes. “Where were you, Hiei?” Kurama asked. “Oh, I went to Mukuro’s place. Wanted to came back yesterday but she asked me to stay for another day,” Hiei reasoned. Kurama smiled. “You slept with her didn’t you?” Kurama asked.

Hanaya widened her eyes. She didn’t knew Hiei would…

“Well, she said she was cold so I thought that maybe I could just stay with her. Are you jealous Kurama?” Hiei giggled. Kurama bit his lips. So the youkai was telling the truth.

Kurama turned to walk away. He felt stupid. He gave Hiei everything; his heart, his soul, his trust, his money and most of all, his love. But Hiei returned it by sleeping with somebody else.

“Oi, Kurama… what’s wrong with you tonight?” Hiei followed the boy. He reached out to touch Kurama when Kurama turned around and pushed him. “Don’t touch me!” he cried, tears flowed freely from his eyes. Hiei frowned. “Why?” the han-koorime asked.

“How could you? Say you love me and sleep with her?” Kurama cried. “And you say you’re not jealous,” Hiei smirked. “This is not about jealousy, Hiei! This is…” Kurama paused. He knew it would be pointless to fight verbally with Hiei.

“Go away Hiei… just don’t come and see me. Don’t come and see me when you’re injured coz I’m not going to take care of your wounds anymore. And don’t come to my house anymore coz I’m not going to open the window for you. Go… we better end this before any of us gets into deeper trouble,” Kurama uttered as he walked away.

Hiei frowned, he sensed that Kurama was serious. “What? Kurama? What’s all this?” Hiei asked. “There’s no point of continuing this relationship if the only one who’s in love is me!” Kurama exclaimed. “But I am in love with you too!” Hiei tried to hold Kurama but the redhead pushed away. “I’m sorry I ever told you I love you,” Kurama opened the door to his room and shut it.

Hiei blinked. He was clueless. What happened to Kurama? It was all so fast…

Hiei turned around and looked. Everyone was watching them silently. Hiei narrowed his eyes. Even though they showed no mocking expressions, he hated it. He hated to be stared at like that. But he had no more Kurama to hide to.

“What are you people staring at?” he asked, tears coming out from his eyes, forming crystals. Yuusuke extended his right hand in a gesture to protect the girls. Yukina wanted to go towards Hiei but was stopped by Kuwabara. Hiei took his sword and looked at the red sash tied to the hilt of the sword. It was Kurama’s work more than 10 years ago. He narrowed his eyes and took out the sword out from its slumber place and started placing cuts on his body.

The first sash was a clean cut on his stomach.

“Hiei-san is going to kill himself!” Rika exclaimed in a whisper. “Shhh…” Yuusuke gestured them to be quiet.

Hiei was all bloody after 6 deep gashes on his body. Blood was pooling around his legs. He threw his sword away and walked towards the stairs heading to Kurama’s room.

He sat in front of the door, legs tucked under his body. “Kurama…” he called. “Go Hiei… be with Mukuro. She can comfort you. I know 10 years of relationship with her is hard to leave,” Kurama said from inside.

“Who’s Mukuro?” Yume asked. “A lady whom Hiei was staying with for the past 10 years,” Yuusuke stated softly.

“Kurama… I’m bleeding…” Hiei uttered softly. “Go find Mukuro,” Kurama uttered from the inside. His voice was tearstained. “I can’t survive it back there this way,” Hiei replied. “Yukina’s out there,” Kurama’s voice said. Yukina wanted to go towards Hiei but was held tight by Kuwabara.

Hiei reached out to touch the door but couldn’t slide it open as he felt a familiar youki.

“Hiei…” suddenly a voice called. Everyone gasped when a lady appeared from nowhere. She was wearing some kind of a mask half of her face.

“That’s Mukuro,” Yuusuke frowned. “She’s scary,” Riko bit her lips. “She was the one who was sleeping with Hiei,” Hanaya told them. “Really?” Ayami blinked. Hanaya nodded.

Mukuro extended her hands and let Hiei come into it. “Someone told me Kurama found the busybody youkai,” she told Hiei. Hiei looked up at her as Mukuro ran a hand through Hiei’s hair. “What’s with all these cuts?” Mukuro asked. “Kurama didn’t want to heal me,” Hiei uttered.

“That… that… what’s she doing to Hiei?” one of the girls asked.

Kurama, sensing a powerful youki opened the door.

He narrowed his eyes. “Mukuro,” he uttered. Hiei turned around and saw Kurama. “Take him back with you,” Kurama told Mukuro. His eyes were dark and serious.

“Why?” Mukuro asked. “Coz he slept with you,” Kurama spat. “Define ‘slept’,” Mukuro challenged the redhead. “Hiei bloody fucked you,” Kurama gritted his teeth.

  ‘PAP’

Mukuro pulled back her hands after slapping the redhead. Kurama reached to touch the sore spot where Mukuro’s hand had just landed. “Hiei might have slept with me, but he didn’t fuck me. Ask him. For the past 10 years, the only body contact I had with him was a motherly hug!” Mukuro turned away.

She walked until mist engulfed her and she disappeared.

Hiei narrowed his eyes at Kurama who was just slapped. His own pain forgotten, he walked to Kurama and reached out.

“DON’T BLOODY FUCKING TOUCH ME!” Kurama cried and ran back into his room. Hiei frowned. They were so happy yesterday but now…

The fire demon sighed and fell to the ground. Yukina came despite Kuwabara’s protest and sat next to him. “Aniki…” she whispered softly and held Hiei’s hand, in comfort and in healing. Hiei bit his lips and leaned on Yukina’s shoulder.

  One sob…

  Two sobs…

The fire demon finally cried on the koorime’s shoulder as she healed him. Yukina patted Hiei’s back and soothed the demon.

The girls came back from morning jog the next morning and saw Hiei sitting on the stairs watching Kurama hanging clothes that he just took out from the laundry room from a distance. They all gathered around Hiei and sat, partly cooling down and partly resting their tired bodies.

Hiei ignored them and kept an intense gaze at Kurama. Hiei had been sleeping in Yukina’s room yesterday. He would have just slept outside like he used to but it rained quite heavily in the middle of the night. So Yukina offered to share her room.

Kurama was still upset about everything.

“How do you think I can win him back?” suddenly Hiei asked, to no one in particular; but he needed and answer generally.

“He’s pretty mad about the slap I think,” Ayami frowned. “Guess so,” Hiei sighed.

Kurama finished with the laundry and carried the empty basket walking towards them. “Morning Kurama-san!” The girls called him. “Morning, girls,” Kurama uttered and walked past as the girls gave way, ignoring Hiei completely.

  “There he goes…” Hiei sighed.

Yuuki suddenly laughed. “I may have an idea to help you!” she patted Hiei’s back. “Aha… so what is it?” Hiei asked. Yuuki smiled as she turned around. “I’ll be back real soon!” with that she ran towards their room.

“What’s she up to?” Hanaya asked. Ayami shrugged. “Who knows,” she sighed and leaned on the wall.

Less that a minute after, Yuuki came back with a bunch of books. Shoujo manga to be exact. “Read this!” she exclaimed. Hiei picked up those books in disgust. “Shoujo Manga?” he asked, eyes as big as dinner plates. “I wouldn’t be caught dead reading these!” Hiei frowned.

“Ehh… but shoujo manga has the best solutions to love problem couples,” Yuuki stressed. “It does?” Hiei blinked. “Of course!” Yuuki nodded.
