Roses We Know and Love

The rose at the upper left is Paul Neyron.....a magnificent Hybrid Perpetual rose that is considered to be the original "Cabbage Rose". This rose grows to six feet tall and bears tightly placed clear pink petals in blossoms that repeat bloom thruout the summer. Two of the things I look for when choosing a rose is it's resistance to disease and it's fragrance... Paul Neyron is a winner on both these issues. The rose at the upper right is Comte De Chambord, a Portland. This is my favorite of all the roses in our gardens. This shrub grows to four feet and bears clusters of clear pink blossoms all summer long that have a true old rose perfume that will thrill you. I recommend it highly! The red rose in the bottom picture is Chrysler Imperial, one of Joe's Hybrid Teas. This rose is a constant bloomer with huge fragrant velvety deep red blossoms that are really a show stopper. This rose requires a sheltered spot as most Hybrid Teas do.... but it is well worth a little extra care. Joe's roses are by a concrete wall that shelters them from the cold North/West Illinois winter winds...a perfect place for Hybrid Teas in our climate....if you can snuggle roses up to your east house foundation you will have roses to share, too.
