ME-262

Messerschmidt Me-262 "Sturmvogel"

The Me-262 Sturmvogel was the first operationals jet-fighter to be built on a production scale.
It was also the most advanced and superior fighter-plane of WWII. Surprisingly the development began before WWII but was first delayed due to technical problems with the jet-engines and later by Hitler himself, who saw this plane not as a fighter but as a "Blitz-Bomber".
After the success of the daytime American bombing-raids Galland could finally convince Hitler that the air-defense needed a miracle and obtained permission to set up a squadron of Me-262īs in 1944. This unit did very well but was hampered by shortages of men and material.
It's high speed and firepower made it the ideal fighter aircraft.
It was used in various roles,as a fighter, fighter/bomber and nightfighter, equipped with radar.
