Googong Dam

Location
Googong Dam is situated on the Queanbeyan River, upstream from Queanbeyan. It is about 15 kms out from Queanbeyan and is about a 40 min drive from Canberra.

Species Present
Googong is stocked with Brown and Rainbow trout, Golden Perch, Silver Perch and Murray Cod. A large population of small sized Redfin Perch is also present. A small population of Macquarie Perch is also present

Best Times
Googong is open for fishing year round but October to December and March to June are generally the best time to fish for trout.

Comments
Googong produces large trout which average between 2.5 to 3.5 kg (5.5 to 7.7 lbs) for Brown Trout and up to about 3 kg (6.6 lb) for Rainbow Trout.

Macquarie Perch are an endangered species, if caught, they must be released.
