News from June 1998

6\28 The Wings selected defenseman Jiri Fischer first in the draft on Saturday. The Wings
were reportedly going for a center, but this guy was too good to pass up, and wasn't
expected to be available when Detroit picked.

6\27 Nik Lidstrom finished second for the Norris trophy behind Rob Blake of the Kings.

6\26 Doug Brown was selected in the expansion draft by Nashville. I'm not sure how this
draft works, but I think there is still a chance he will remain in Hockeytown.

6\24 Don Waddell, the Wing's Assistant GM took the GM job with Atlanta. Good Luck to him.

6\24 The Captain was on Letterman and Regis and Kathy Lee. I apologize for the late notice,
as I just found out myself.

6\22 The Wings have announced the list of 7 players who they will not protect from the
Expansion Draft. On the list are Doug Brown, Kevin Hodson, Brent Gilchrist, Mike Knuble,
Joe Kocur, Jamie Macoun, and Norm Maracle.

6\17 Slava Fetisov has filed a lawsuit against the limo driver and the company he worked for.

6\17 The parade will be on Thursday at (I think) 11:30 AM.

6\17 The Wings finish off the Caps with a 4-1 win at Washington. Scoring were Brown(2),
LaPointe, and Murphy. Next up: Training Camp. More on the Stanley Cup Champions tomarrow.

6\17 Steve Yzerman wins the Conn Smythe Trophy.

6\13 Wings win Game 3 2-1. Scoring were Holmstrom and Fedorov. Game 4, and hopefully a
sweep will be Tuesday at 8PM EST on ESPN. I'm hoping for a sweep just so I don't have to sit
through another game on Fox.

6\12 Slava Kozlov suffered an undisclosed leg injury in period 2 of Game 2. He did not
return for the match. He is listed as questionable for Game 3.

6\12 The Wings come back twice to beat Wasington in OT 5-4. Scoring were Yzerman(2),Brown,
LaPointe, and Draper with the game winner. Next up:Game 3 Saturday at Washington, 8 PM EST,
ESPN.

6\10 The Wings have announced a tentative unprotected list for the expansion draft this
summer. The list includes: Mike Knuble, Joey Kocur, Doug Brown, Brent Gilchrist, Jamie
Macoun, Kevin Hodson and Norm Maracle.

6\9 The Wings take game 1 with a 2-1 win at home. Scoring were Kocur and Lidstrom. Next
up: Game 2 at the Joe, 8 PM EST Thursday night, ESPN.

6\7 Brent Gilchrist is expected to be out for the season with a groin tear.

6\5 It's on to the Finals with a 2-0 win in Game 6. Scoring were Murphy and Fedorov. Next
up: The Stanley Cup Finals. Game 1 is on Tuesday night.

6\3 The Wings drop game 5 at Dallas 3-2 in OT. Scoring were Holmstrom (or Murphy, depending
on who you ask), and Larionov. Next up: at the Joe Friday night, 7:30.
