                    THE OSGOOD FILE

                    September 29, 2001

How Red Wings fans will remember goaltender Chris Osgood,
who became an Islander on Friday:

                    * As the 21-year-old rookie who cried at his locker after the
Sharks completed their first-round, seven-game upset in 1994.

                    * As the reluctant fighter who went toe-to-toe with Patrick Roy in
1998, as his mother, Joy, watched from the stands, first in horror,
then yelling "Oz-zie! Oz-zie! Oz-zie!" with the rest of Joe Louis
                    Arena.

                    * As the beaming son who rode with his mother in the 1998
                    Stanley Cup parade.

                    * As the Wizard of Oz, as the scoreboard would say after a big
save, and as the victim of too many 90-footers, such as from Al
MacInnis and Jamie Langenbrunner in the '98 playoffs.

                    * As a classy kid who never complained -- always so baby-faced,
even with the goatee -- even when riding the bench behind Mike
Vernon in the '95 and '97 playoffs, and even as a 28-year-old
when Dominik Hasek arrived to take his job.

                    BY THE NUMBERS

Record: 221-110-46 career, 25-19-4 last season.
                    Goals-against average: 2.41 career, 2.69 last season.
3 All-Star Game appearances. All stats are 2nd best in
Red Wing history behing the great Terry Sawchuck.

9\28 The Islanders picked up Ozzy from the waiver draft.

9\27 The team's starting to put it all together, beating Toronto 5-2. Scoring were
Yzerman, Shanahan, Datsyuk, Butsayev, and Fedorov. Hasek played the entire game.
Next up: at Chicago on Friday.

9\26 Shanny and Hull scored in the Wing's 3-2 OT loss in Montreal. Next up: Toronto at
the Joe tonight. The Wings left Ozzy unprotected which means any team can pick him up
for nothing. All they have to do is honor his existing contract.

9\24 Look for Ozzy to be traded tomarrow, likely to the Rangers or Islanders. The team
must turn in their protected list tomarrow for Friday's waiver draft. Look for a Jesse
Wallin to be traded soon as well.

9\23 Montreal went up 3-0 before the WIngs showed some life, winning 4-3. Scoring were
Holmstrom(2), Gilchrist, and Yzerman with 1:38 to play. Next up: at Montreal on Tuesday.
The Wings are 2-2 so far in the preseason.

9\22 Fredrik Olausson scored a goal and two assists in the Red Wings' 4-1 victory over
the Chicago Blackhawks. Also scoring were Datsyuk, Fedorov(1+sh). Next up: Montreal
tonight.

9\19 Marty Lapointe scored a goal for Boston and led them to a 3-1 win at the Joe last
night. Scoring was Butsayev. Chris Osggod played the first half of the game and was
spectacular, allowing no goals. Next up: Chicago on Friday night.
The Wings have brought in Ladislav Kohn for a tryout. He played in Atlanta last year.

9\18 The Wings looked good in their exhibition opening loss to the Rangers 3-2. Scoring
were Shanahan and Dandenault. Some of the young guys looked great. Chris Chelios got
tossed in the third for two fights and the Rangers won on the ensuing 7 minute power play.
Next up: Boston at the Joe tonight.
