We Are The People Our Parents Warned Us About

As you may have already figured out I am a big Jimmy Buffett fan.
I am from San Diego, CA. One of Jimmy's least favorite places. Don't believe me? Check out the song VOLCANOand see what Jimmy is missing.
Being a Parrot Head is more than just being a fan of Jimmy Buffett's music. Although that is a very big part of it. Being a Parrot Head is more about life style. It's about having a Carribbean set of mind, even if you don't live anywhere near the ocean. Still not sure what a Parrot Head is? Then check out Dennis Arnold's view on What is a Parrot Head?
I have been a fan of Jimmy Buffett's ever since I first heard Come Monday on the radio in the very early seventies. Not sure exactly when, but somewhere along the way I slipped over the line from fan to Parrot Head. But I can relate to you that moment of enlightenment when I admitted to myself that I was indeed a Parrot Head. It was the early part of 1991 (Yes it took that long for the cold hard facts to sink in) 5 miles off the coast of Iraq. I was stationed on board the USS Theodore Roosevelt, CVN-71. I was at that time a 15 year veteran of the USN (I have since completed twenty one years of Naval service and have retired.) and a Hospital Corpsman First Class. During the early part of '91 while we waited for Sadam Hussein to drop a Scud Missile (or something worse) on us, I found myself turning more and more to my music collection to help me escape the chaos going on around me. And the artist I found myself turning to almost exclusively was good old Jimmy. No matter how bad things got on the boat his music was always able to take me away for awhile to someplace where there was no war and never failed to bring a smile to my lips. And for that I will always be grateful to Jimmy and his music. And why I'm proud to say "I'm definitely one of the people our parents warned us about".
