AMERICAN MUSIC MASTER
A week-long American Music Masters Series of exhibits, films,
lectures, panel discussions and concerts entitled "Waiting For A
Train: Jimmie Rodgers' America" began yesterday (Monday, September
15) at the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame & Museum in Cleveland, Ohio,
the Country Music Hall Of Fame & Museum in Nashville, Tennessee,
and Case Western Reserve University. Rodgers was recently the
subject of "The Songs Of Jimmie Rodgers -- A Tribute," on
Egyptian/Columbia Records; the album features the timeless music
of "The Blue Yodeler" performed by David Ball, Dickey Betts, Bono,
Mary Chapin Carpenter, Iris DeMent, Bob Dylan, Steve Earle,
Jerry Garcia (in his last studio recording), Alison Krauss, John
Mellencamp, Van Morrison, Willie Nelson, Aaron Neville, and Dwight
Yoakam.
The American Music Masters salute to Jimmie Rodgers will feature
an all-star tribute concert at Cleveland's Severance Hall at 7:30pm
on Sunday, September 21; the lineup includes Ricky Skaggs, Junior
Brown, Guy Clark, Iris DeMent, Steve Earle, Jimmie Dale Gilmore,
and John Prine. A Jimmie Rodgers Jamboree is scheduled for 8:30pm
on Saturday, September 20 at the Odeon (in the Flats) and features
David Ball, the Delevantes, Alejandro Escovedo, Steve Forbert,
Jason & the Scorchers, Southside Johnny and Gillian Welch & David
Rawlings.
Both the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame and the Country Music Hall Of
Fame are running photo exhibits chronicling Rodgers life and
career. The Nashville exhibits includes screenings of Rodgers'
only film appearance: the 1929 feature "The Singing Brakeman."
Both exhibits are free with museum admission.
Additional events include a day-long conference at Case
University on September 20; an educational lecture at the
RRHOFM on Wednesday, September 17; a documentary film "The
Life and Times of Jimmie Rodgers" at the RRHOFM on September
18; and a free acoustic concert at the RRHOFM on September 21.
The 1997 American Music Masters Series celebrates the 100th
Anniversary of Rodgers' birth. Rodgers was inducted into he
Country Music Hall of Fame in 1961 and in the Rock & Roll Hall
Of Fame, as an early influence, in 1986.
Jamboree & concert tickets may be purchased through Ticketmaster.

magic of his beloved Minutemen...." while Addicted To Noise
ran a review of Watt's live performance of "Contemplating The
Engine Room" at the CMJ convention in New York, September 11,
observing: "...'Contemplating The Engine Room' is an amazingly
cohesive work, rendered musically in subtle shadings and
purposeful movements and lyrically in satisfyingly rich
detail....At the Elbow Room, the band gave 'Engine Room' a
wonderful debut airing...from [the audience's] reaction at the
work's close...they obviously understood that this album is a
labor of intense love and emotion for Watt."
Meanwhile, if you're anywhere near Cal State Fullerton on

OUR LADY RAVE
Check out what Steve Morse has to say today about Our Lady Peace in the
September 12th Boston Globe's Rock Notes column:
"PEACE AT THE LAGOON"
"Our Lady Peace, currently hot on the charts with 'Superman's Dead,' played
a potent set from aboard a boat in the lagoon behind Cambridgeside Galleria
last Saturday afternoon. The free WBCN-promoted gig was attended my
3,000-plus fans who ringed the lagoon and heard a high decibel performance.
It had some of the treble-rich urgency of U2 mixed with raw, Smashing
Pumpkins-like vocals, capped by a sex appeal that had many young fans
lining up to meet the band and drool over autographs. I had seen Our Lady
Peace once before - opening for Van Halen at Great Woods - but the group
has improved markedly."

OUT OF THE BARN & INTO THE CLUBS
The latest buzz outta Great Britain is the young band Arnold,
whose import only EP, "The Barn Tapes" (literally the group's
demos, recorded in an actual barn), is currently in CMJ's
Top 75. Arnold came stateside to bookend the CMJ convention
with a few gigs & Tuesday night's extravaganza at New York's
Mercury Lounge was a smash with indie rock legend Bob Mould
spotted grooving in the audience. Arnold has been lauded in the
English press with features in music papers like the NME and
Melody Maker as well as mainstream coverage in outlets like the
Guardian and the Observer; the band has also performed killer
sets at a slew of key U.K. music festivals including
Reading & T In The Park. On this, the group's first tour of
the U.S., they've played to packed clubs of tastemakers & performed
dates with artists like Beth Orton (in Boston) and Jill
Sobule (in Providence). Arnold is currently recording its
debut album for Creation/Columbia, due out spring 98 and will
embark on a U.K. tour with Tanya Donnelly in a couple of weeks.

JULIO IGLESIAS RECEIVES ASCAP'S PIED PIPER AWARD
This came in on the PR News Wire via Dow Jones and we really
wanted to share it
MIAMI, Sept. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- International superstar, Julio Iglesias, was
presented with the prestigious Pied Piper Award by the American Society of
Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) at the Fountainbleu Hotel, Miami, on
September 8.
The Pied Piper is traditionally presented to entertainers who have made
outstanding contributions to words and music and have led a worldwide following
worthy of a Pied Piper.
Other recipients of the Pied Piper include Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra and
Barbra Streisand.
THIS DAY IN ROCK & ROLL DISHTORY
28 years ago today (September 11, 1969), "The Great White Wonder," a
two-record collection of rare and unreleased Bob Dylan recordings,
appeared in a Los Angeles record store. What made the album
notorious was that it was released and distributed without the
consent of either the artist or his record company. The
success of "The Great White Wonder," generally considered to be the
first "bootleg" album, led to the establishment of a furtive
underground cottage industry.
22 years ago today (September 11, 1975), Aerosmith's self-titled
debut album was certified gold by the RIAA.
10 years ago today (September 11, 1987), Peter Tosh, the legendary
reggae star, was shot to death in his home in Kingston, Jamaica.
Jamaican police said that Tosh was murdered after refusing to give
money to robbers.
On September 23rd, Columbia/Legacy will release "Honorary Citizen," a
3-CD box-set of Tosh's immortal recordings.
"I am as old as the earth, from the sun was, reincarnated millions
of times, and still doing the same work, musically. And I don't
want to be looked upon as no superstar, as no king. My music is
just music, is a message decorated with music for the awakening of
people's consciousness unto certain levels of reality. I don't
want no title from men, 'cause I don't work
for men. I work for the Almighty. I am a Rastaman." -- Peter Tosh,
circa 1981
"Honorary Citizen" is an elaborately designed triple-CD box-set
that represents the first comprehensive anthology devoted to the
career of Winston Hubert McIntosh -- spanning twenty years from
his first home-made Jamaican solo singles while still a
member of the Wailers (1964 to 1973) up through the final album
release of his lifetime in 1987.
This history-making package from Columbia/Legacy, a division
of Sony Music, is set for September 23rd in-store date.
September 11, 1997 will mark the tenth anniversary of Peter Tosh's
murder at age 42, inside his home in Kingston at the hands of
three gunmen -- just one day after the release of his final album, No
Nuclear War.
Containing 44 tracks -- only six of which actually date from his
two U.S. Columbia albums Legalize It (1976) and Equal Rights (1977)
-- "Honorary Citizen" is the ultimate Peter Tosh memorial, more than
200 minutes of music comprising a wealth of live performances and
sides from nearly a dozen record labels.
In addition to the most ambitious and complete book to
accompany a single artist's box-set this year (see details to follow),
every track was digitally remastered from the finest available sources.
The songs on "Honorary Citizen" document the entire scope of Peter
Tosh's career, beginning with his earliest self-produced efforts
with the Wailers ("Pound Get a Blow," "Fire Fire"). His
rejection of Christianity ("You Can't Fool Me Again") and
subsequent embrace of Rastafari ("Righteous Ruler") parallel his
emergence as a solo artist in the early '70s ("Here Comes the Judge,"
Arise Blackman," "Dog Teeth," "Legalize It," "Bumbo Klaat").
Tosh's 1978 breakthrough (a remake of the Temptations' "(You Got To
Walk and) Don't Look Back," a duet with Mick Jagger) underscored
his self-denied status as a world-class superstar and
hitmaker ("African," "Get Up Stand Up," "Downpressor Man," "Stepping
Razor," "Equal Rights," "I'm the Toughest").
Packed with independently-released singles and previously
unreleased material, the box is conceptually divided according to its
three discs: "Jamaican Singles" (19 extremely rare early Jamaican
titles recorded between 1967 and 1980, including two with the
Wailers; on the Wail 'N' Soul 'M', Randy's, Upsetter, Jogibs,
Shock, Tuff Gong, and Intel Diplo labels); "Live" (11 previously
unissued performances from Peter's 1982 North American tour,
recorded in Los Angeles, Boulder, Calgary, Detroit, and Chicago);
and "Hits & Classic Album Cuts" (13 titles recorded between 1976
and 1987, on the Intel Diplo, Columbia, Rolling Stones,
and EMI-America labels).
"Honorary Citizen," the title track and closing cut of the box-set,
is a previously unissued posthumous collaboration featuring Tosh's
voice, with new lyrics and vocals by Pauline Morris.
Ms. Morris (Tosh's cousin) is executive producer of this
collection and author of the forthcoming book, The Truth Is
Within: The Autobiography of Pauline Morris and Her Relationship
with Peter Tosh. She is also the head of Intel Diplo H.I.M. (Intelligent
Diplomat for His Imperial Majesty), the record label that Tosh
founded in Jamaica in 1971, and incorporated in the U.S. in 1976,
as an outlet for his self-produced singles and dub versions that
were provided by Morris' personal archives, and which
continues to operate in New York in perpetuation of his memory.
Complementing the music is the imaginative visual and editorial
content of the 4-color book accompanying the box-set.
Included is a full-length biography and chronological
discography (of song titles) compiled by assistant producer
Roger Steffens, founding editor of The Beat magazine. His
Reggae Archives, the world's largest collection of Wailers and
Peter Tosh material, were the source for much of the content on
disc one. Lengthy track-by-track liner notes were written by
Steffens and Leroy Jodie Pierson.
Among the other highlights of "Honorary Citizen" is "Words of the
Herbalist Verbalist," a glossary of expressions, idioms (and puns!)
popularized by Peter Tosh in music and conversation. Another
section is devoted to a wide-ranging series of tributes to the
artist from former Jamaican Prime Minister Michael Manley,
long-time British publicist Charlie Comer, Neville Garrick,
Kathy Kane of Greenpeace, Joe Higgs, and reggae artist Lucky Dube.
"Peter had a lot of dreams," singer Carlton Smith (of Jamaica's
premiere vocal group the Tamlins) told Steffens. "He was a
people's man, you know. Peter was a black messenger. A man who
liked to see equal rights and justice, freedom for his people. A
man who would love to see reggae music to the highest heights. To
me, Peter was like the Black Prince of Liberty. Peter imagined
himself as a prince on a throne, with his people being freed, and
this music being played 24/7. Peter was a great singer, a
messenger and a philosopher."
4 years ago today (September 11, 1993), Mariah Carey's "Dreamlover"
hit the top of the charts where it would remain for eight solid weeks.

THEY STILL PUT ERASERS ON PENCILS
First off, we'd like to clear up a couple of misimpressions and
downright inaccuracies from yesterday's Daily Dish:
1) Cry Of Love will be HEADLINING the night of Wednesday,
September 24th, at the Mason Jar in Phoenix, Arizona, not
opening for Cheap Trick.
2) The New York band Shift is not now and never has been from
Seattle. Here's a little more about Shift and the band's
hotly-anticipated major label debut, "Get In":
With a Columbia Records' debut album, GET IN, due in stores on
September 23, the New York-based rock band Shift is currently on
tour supporting No Knife (see itinerary attached).
Shift was formed in 1992 when Josh Loucka (guitar and vocals),
Brandon Simpson (bass), and Samantha Maloney (drums) were
still in high school. The three-some released two recordings
through the indie label Equal Vision: Pathos (their debut EP in 1994)
and Spacesuit (1995's full-length album).
Shift's new album, GET IN, is the first to feature the band's
new fourth member, Mark Holcomb, a guitarist imported from
Seattle. GET IN is produced by Clive Langer and Alan Winstanley,
the British production team who've worked with Bush, Madness,
Elvis Costello, and David Bowie, among others.
A finely-honed live act of considerable power and reputation,
Shift is dedicated to making the band's music come alive on-stage.
In 1995, following the release of Spacesuit, the band toured the
United States and Europe while a major percentage of 1996 was
spent on the road with bands like Orange 9mm, Texas Is The Reason,
Quicksand, Clutch, and Tad.

TROUBLIZING IN THE PRESS
Erstwhile Cars frontman Ric Ocasek has an incredible new
solo album, "Troublizing," in stores today. Here's a
sample of what the music press thinks of it:
Tom Lanham in Musician (October): "...few records released so
far this summer sound more cheap-thrill refreshing than 'Troublizing,'
the kitschy, unexpected comeback from ex-Cars leader Ric Ocasek....
Now a new generation can discover his twisted genius."
Jim Farber in Entertainment Weekly (September 12): "The driving
force behind the Cars turned up the hook quotient for his first
solo album in four years. You'll find melodies pert enough to
recall his old hits, abetted by nostalgic new-wave production
from Billy Corgan."
Dan Aquilante in the New York Post (September 9): "Ric Ocasek...jump
starts his career with a disc that recalls the streamlined
guitars and pensive vocal phrasing that once defined the Cars...
There are a couple of excellent, radio-friendly, commercial
pop songs surrounded by Ocasek's less-accessible but more
rewarding tunes. ..If you love classic Cars, nab this disc."
Sandy Masuo in the Los Angeles Times (September 8): "...the former
Cars frontman's latest effort is a fetching mixture of...new-wave
polish and post-punk grit...A match made in heaven."
Marc Pollack and Steve Mirkin in the Hollywood
Reporter (September 8): "Ocasek has found a new passion for the stage.
Even his older tunes took on a new life. New songs like 'Right Moment'
and 'Hold On Tight' were especially charming."
Matt Diehl in Interview (September): "With this album, the gaunt
mastermind of '80's new-wave avatars the Cars has created his
most accessible and most reaching solo work yet...'Troublizing'
captures everything great about his past successes while
sounding as contemporary as, say, Pavement."

WINK ON DECK
Ovum/RuffHouse/Columbia recording artist, Josh Wink, one of the best known
and most critically acclaimed names on the DJ/producer scene, will be
performing at the kick-off gala for "Soldiers Of Fortune," a new TV series
from Rysher Entertainment (Howard Stern's "Private Parts" film among
others) being produced by Jerry Bruckheimer. The party will be held
onboard the U.S.S. Intrepid aircraft carrier on the Manhattan side of the
Hudson River, this Wednesday starting at 7pm.
TROUBLIZING IN MIND
On Friday, 9/5 Ric Ocasek performed his first official set as a solo artist
at a CMJ showcase (sharing the bill with Mike Watt, who debuted his
'contemplating the engine room' "punk rock opera," as well as the Missouri
pop-power band Flick and Seattle's Shift). Joined on stage by Ira Elliot
(Nada Surf) on drums, guitarist Eric Schermerhorn (Iggy Pop), and Bran
Lancourt (Johnny Bravo) on bass, Ric performed blazing versions of songs
from "Troublizing," his label debut for Columbia Records as well as some
nuggets from his days of cruising with the Cars including "Moving In
Stereo," "Since You're Gone" and "Shake It Up." Guests in the audience
included his longtime crony Alan Vega (Suicide) and Billy Corgan, who
co-produced and played on "Troublizing."
The next day, Ric joined the Artist Panel -- alongside Exene Cervenka and
members of the High Llamas, Low, Fear Factory, and Bark Market -- at the
CMJ Music Marathon to discuss topics such as balancing the need to be
successful alongside allegiance to one's artistic vision, the sorry state
of commercial radio (Ric's favorite station is WFMU) etc.
Later on, Ocasek and his band made their way uptown to Metropolis Studios
on 106th Street to perform "The Next Right Moment" for an episode of Comedy
Central's "Viva Variety," which will air in December. The show's fictional
hosts, Mr. Laupin and "the former Mrs. Laupin" (played by Kerri Kenny whose
band Cake-Like, Ric has produced) performed a tongue in cheek tribute to
country music ("Eurotrash is still trash, if you give us a chance,").
Co-presenter Johnny Blue Jeans gave a lesson in French kissing. Other
guests included Mr. Gumby, "the world's most elastic man."
On Monday, 9/8, Ric and friends are scheduled to perform live on the
syndicated "Rock Line" radio program from Sony Studios, the performance
starting at 11:30pm (Eastern).
THIS DAY IN ROCK & ROLL DISHTORY
46 years ago today (September 8, 1951), Tony Bennett's "Because Of You" hit
the top of the charts and stayed there for 10 solid weeks.
56 years ago today (September 8, 1941), the bandleader Harry James and his
Orchestra recorded a little ditty called "Miserlou" for Columbia Records.
62 years ago today (September 8, 1935), "Major Bowes Amateur Hour,"
broadcast on WOR Radio, aired a performance by the winning combo at a
competition held at New York's Capitol Theater. The group, the Hoboken
Four, featured a skinny lead singer, Frank Sinatra.
100 years ago today (September 8, 1897), James "Jimmie" Charles Rodgers,
the third son of Aaron Rodgers, a railroad foreman, was born in Meridian,
Mississippi. At the of 14, Jimmie took his first job on the railroad. In
1923, weakened by pneumonia and tuberculosis, Rodgers took up a less
strenuous occupation: singing. He went on to become "The Singing
Brakeman," "The Blue Yodeler," and "The Father Of Country Music." He was
the first country singer to be featured in a motion picture ("The Singing
Brakeman") and, in 1961, was posthumously named the first member of the
Country Music Hall of Fame. He died in 1933, but not before recorded
roughly 127 tracks that've defined the course of contemporary music. A
recent tribute album, "The Songs Of Jimmie Rodgers" features hommages by
David Ball, Dickey Betts, Bono, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Iris Dement, Steve
Earle, Jerry Garcia (in his last studio performance), Alison Krauss, John
Mellencamp, Van Morrison, Willie Nelson, Aaron Neville, Dwight Yoakam, and
Bob Dylan, who says in his liner notes: "The artists on this compilation,
as diverse as ever, all have one thing in common -- all have been
enormously affected by Jimmie like no other. Why? Because Jimmie was
alive in a way that others were not and are not. His message is all
between the lines and he delivers it like nectar that can drill through
steel. He gets somehow into the mystery of life and death without saying
too much, has some kind of uncanny ability to translate it -- he's like the
smell of flowers.... we don't salute ourselves in making this record but we
point you back there so you can feel it for yourself and see how far off
the path we've come. Times change and don't change. The nature of
humanity has stayed the same. Jimmie is at the heart of it all with a
seriousness and humor that is befuddling, notwithstanding that infamous
blue yodel that defies conjecture. His is the voice in the wilderness of
your head... only in turning up the volume can we determine our own
destiny."

THE SWINGING BRAKEMAN
The New York Daily News' David Hinckley found this to say about "The Songs
Of Jimmie Rodgers -- A Tribute Album" in an article titled "A Giant From
The Old Country":
"On the outskirts of Meridian, Miss., miles from the railroad yards, it
costs just two cash dollars to visit a small museum that honors a song
stylist who had a significant impact on American
popular song.
"Jimmie Rodgers, who was born in Meridian 100 years ago next Monday and
died in a New York hotel in 1933, is called a founder of country music, and
that's true. But it's like calling Sinatra a saloon singer and leaving it
at that.
"Happily, Rodgers' anniversary is being marked by a CD that makes his case
beautifully. 'The Songs of Jimmie Rodgers: A Tribute' is the first release
on Egyptian Records, a label created by Columbia for Bob Dylan, and if
Egyptian never issues another it has done its job.
"Tribute records are as common as crank phone calls these days, and often
just as tiresome. This is anything but. It features 14 Rodgers tunes
performed in styles from the aching ballads of Aaron Neville ('Why Should I
Be Lonely?') and Bono ('Dreaming With Tears in My Eyes') to Steve Earle's
raunchy 'In the Jailhouse Now,' which ends with the banshee holler, 'I
ain't supposed to be here!'
"Rodgers was arguably the country's most popular singer, and the hundreds
of guitarists who wanted to be the next Jimmie Rodgers included Ernest
Tubb, Jimmie Davis and Gene Autry.
"What he did best was sell a song. He made music sound like fun, and it's
that spirit Dylan captures on 'My Blue-Eyed Jane.' Willie Nelson shines
with 'Peach-Picking Time in Georgia' , and David Ball does a note-perfect
'Miss the Mississippi and You.'
"Alison Krauss and Mary Chapin Carpenter, to whom Rodgers can't be even a
distant memory,
catch his drift with a slowed-down 'Any Old Time' and 'Somewhere Down Below
the Dixon Line.'
"Jerry Garcia's last recording is here: a nice bluegrass-style 'Blue Yodel
#9' with David Grisman. Rodgers' original was jazzy, with trumpet by Louis
Armstrong, but these songs have amazing flexibility. Fast, slow, melodrama,
double wisecracks, good and bad times. There's room to
roam around.
"If you happen to pass through Meridian, stop by the museum, whose
exhibits include the tuxedo, bow tie and bowler hat Rodgers is wearing on
the cover of this CD. They're dark blue and they call for a long look. Miss
the Mississippi and you."

SHIFT ON THE MOVE
With a Columbia Records' debut album, GET IN, due in stores on
September 23, the New York-based rock band Shift is currently on
tour supporting L7 (through September 5) and No Knife (see
itinerary attached).
Shift's new album, GET IN, is the first to feature the band's new
fourth member, Mark Holcomb, a guitarist imported from Seattle.
GET IN is produced by Clive Langer and Alan Winstanley, the
British production team who've worked with Bush, Madness, Elvis
Costello, and David Bowie, among others.

THIS DAY IN ROCK & ROLL DISHTORY
55 years ago today (September 3, 1942), Hoboken-born singer
Frank Sinatra said good-bye to his gig as vocalist for the
Tommy Dorsey Band to try his luck as a solo artist.
42 years ago today (September 3, 1955), Americans sang along
with Mitch Miller's "The Yellow Rose Of Texas," which
topped the charts and stayed there for six weeks.
31 years ago today (September 3, 1966), Donovan's "Sunshine Superman"
topped the pop charts and stayed there for a week. One of the
riffs from the track can currently be heard on the hit
single "Legend Of A Cowgirl" by Imani Coppola.
30 years ago today (September 3, 1967), folk singer Woody
Guthrie, a font of inspiration to generations of
songwriters (most notably Bob Dylan), succumbed to Huntington's
Chorea at the Brooklyn State Hospital in New York. Woody was 52.
28 years ago today (September 3, 1969), topping the Country
charts was a little ditty called "A Boy Named Sue," sung by
the original man in black, Johnny Cash.
27 years ago today (September 3, 1970), Rolling Stone
magazine reported that unauthorized Bob Dylan collection, "Great
White Wonder" had sold more than 350,000 copies. The notorious
bootleg helped launch an underground cottage industry of
illegal, yet highly collectible, recordings.

JIMMIE RODGERS NEIGHBORHOOD
The legendary Jimmie Rodgers, aka "The Father Of Country Music"
would've been 100 years old this week (his birthday's on September 8)
and a group of contemporary musicians -- including Bob Dylan,
Aaron Neville, Bono, Van Morrison, and Jerry Garcia (in his last
studio recording) -- pay homage to "The Singing Brakeman" on "The
Songs Of Jimmie Rodgers - A Tribute." Even though Jimmie
passed on in 1932, this extraordinary album of his timeless
music is a Hot Shot Debut (at #31) on Billboard's Top Country
Albums chart. Here's how Request magazine's Mark Binelli
covered the latest interpretation of Mr. Rodgers' music:
"'The Songs Of Jimmie Rodgers' is not another swinish tribute-album-as-
marketing-scheme in which we're expected to believe, say, the
members of Better Than Ezra always have been huge Rodgers 'fans.'
Rather, Dylan has recruited artists with voices distinctive
enough to liberate Rodgers (dead at 35) from any musty historical
context and prove his often bleak songs of hard luck and wanderlust
speak to the ages'. 'The Songs Of Jimmie Rodgers' lives up to Dylan's
snappiest liner-note quip: 'His is the voice in the wilderness of your head'."

FIRESTARTER
Here's what Billboard's Paul Verna had to say on the topic of
Billy Joel's new collection of Greatest Hits:
"..the third volume of Joel best-of albums may be the most noteworthy
because of the inclusion of three new recordings.... a show-stopping
title track penned by Bob Dylan... deserves consideration as
one of the year's most outstanding songs and performances. An
album that marks a milestone in the Billboard Century Award-winner's
pop oeuvre as he prepares to embark on a classical career."
