EXT. F.B.I. HEADQUARTERS WASHINGTON D.C. DAY
INT. F.B.I. SPECIAL UNIT - OFFICE
Agent's BRIAN SCOTT and BARBIE BASSO are reviewing a
report from the Agent in Charge of the BOISE IDAHO office,
covering multiple kidnappings in PRIEST LAKE, IDAHO.
BRIAN SCOTT PHD.
An esteem Egyptoligist of the highest order has been with the FBI
for over ten years and is called in on special cases where this
background is necessary. He is also a specialist in Applied
Criminal Psychology and has published papers on this subject.
He has two years in pre-med and is qualified for Clinical forensic
Specialties.
BARBIE BASSO MD.
A Doctor of Forensic Medicine and is rated one of the best in this
field. She has been with the FBI for over six years and is called in
on special cases where this background is required. A specialist
in Applied Criminal Psychology and Criminal Behavior. She
has been Scott's partner for the last three years.
SCOTT
(studying the report)
The Legend of the NEZ PERCE
Indian massacre.
(hands the package to Basso)
The white folks in those days,
weren't very nice to the Indians.
BASSO
Is this Legend for real?
SCOTT
We had the Director of Indian
affairs check this out thoroughly
and it's authentic. In the early
eighteen hundreds the new settlers
with the help of federal troops
massacred over five thousand men,
women and children.
BASSO
Why would any civilized human being
destroy all those beautiful Native
Americans?
SCOTT
I don't know, sometimes it's hard
to hate the Nazi's for doing what
they did during world two when the
United States have been so guilty
of brutality to our Native Americans.
BASSO
(very sad)
So what has the legend have
to do with all the missing
people?
SCOTT
The legend states five years
before the Millennium, white
people will start to disappear
in the nation of the Nez Perce
Indians. The area covers what
is now Priest Lake, Sandpoint,
Coeur D' Alene and Lewiston Idaho.
BASSO
(concerned)
The report says they started
loosing people on January 1,
1995. On the average about
two a week. The legend says
"The white man will loose
many men, women and children
until the total equals what
the Nez Perce nation lost
during the Massacre."
SCOTT
That's a lot of people.
We leave for priest Lake
in the morning.
BASSO
It says here, local, state
and federal authorities have
come up with nothing.
SCOTT
We'll meet with the Sheriff
at Priest Lake who will take
us to visit an expert on the
legend. He may be able to give
us some clues on why or where
the people have gone.
CUT TO:
EXT. PRIEST LAKE IDAHO DAY 1
EXT. PRIEST LAKE SHERIFF DEPARTMENT
INT. OFFICE OF THE SHERIFF
Scott and Basso are in conference with Sheriff
SAM WARD a nice looking man in his late fifties
talking with a slight southern accent.
WARD
It's good to have you here Agent's
Scott and Basso.
SCOTT
Sheriff Ward, will you tell us
about the Nez Perce Legend.
WARD
The legend goes, the Nez Perce Chief
"Captain Jack" ,placed a curse on the white men responsible for all the atrocities and someday their descendants would start disappearing.
SCOTT
How many families are missing?
WARD
Four from Sandpoint Idaho.
BASSO
Since you've no evidence, then you
must have speculation, at any level.
WARD
We have a descendent of the Nez Perce
nation who is around a hundred years
old and claims he's been predicting
this part of the legend would come
about starting in 1995.
I thought about making the trip
to see him, but I didn't want
to spook him. I thought it would
be better if we all go to see him.
He's a hermit and lives in the area
called Rainbow Falls, it's in the
headwaters of the Priest River.
Actually he lives on the Canadian
side, so I felt since you two have
diplomatic immunity, we can legally
go into Canada and question him.
SCOTT
You've done your homework Sheriff
Ward. When can we leave?
WARD
We'll take a boat from the priest
Lake Lodge to the upper Priest River
then go by horseback about twenty
miles to Rainbow Falls. Maybe Agent
Basso could stay here in the Lodge
and wait for us, it's very desolate
country and it may be a little to
rough for lady's.
BASSO
(smiling)
Thank you for your consideration
Sheriff Ward, but I can do anything
Scott can do. Count me in.
WARD
Have you made accommodations at the
Lodge?
SCOTT
Yes we have, what time do you want
us to be ready, and what do you want
us to wear?
WARD
Dress warm, the temperatures drop in
the low thirties at night, the trip
will take two days. We leave tomorrow
morning, spend the night there at
Rainbow falls and come back the next
morning. I'll furnish the horses
and guide.
SCOTT
Guide, I assumed you were the guide?
WARD
The person we're visiting only speaks
a rare dialect of the Nez Perce nation
so I have to use one of my Deputies to
interpret for us. Is that a problem?
BASSO
Oh, not at all.
WARD
The deputy's name is Eric Raven, he's
one of my best.
Sheriff Ward hit's the button on his intercom and
speaks to his secretary.
WARD
Diane, will you please send in
Eric.
The door opens and a nice looking young man in his
late thirties walks in and Sheriff Ward makes the
introductions and every one shakes hands.
WARD
Eric, I want you to meet Agents
Scott and Basso, we've called
in the F.B.I. to help us on this
case.
RAVEN
(smiling)
My pleasure.
CUT TO:
EXT. PRIEST LAKE IDAHO DAY 2
EXT. PRIEST LAKE LODGE BOAT DOCK
INT. FORTY FOOT POLICE CRUISER
Scott and Basso are with Deputy Raven in the cabin
part of the cruiser. The temperature is in the low
thirties and Raven has made hot coffee for everyone.
SCOTT
Where's Sheriff Ward?
RAVEN
He called me this morning and said
he was called away last night on
another problem, so if he wasn't
here by five o'clock leave without
him. It's five-fifteen now, so if
you will agent Scott, drop the
boat line and we'll leave.
With a roar the Police Cruiser leaves the dock and
the boat disappears in the early morning mist.
CUT TO:
EXT. PRIEST LAKE IDAHO DAY 3
EXT. UPPER PRIEST RIVER
Scott, Basso and Raven have unloaded their gear and
are now packing the four horses.
RAVEN
Since Sheriff Ward couldn't
make it, we'll use the fourth
horse as a pack horse. It'll
make it easier on the other
horses.
SCOTT
I'm curious Deputy, why didn't
we just use a helicopter to get
up here?
RAVEN
This is the fire season Agent
Scott and they're all gone.
BASSO
It's really hard to get used to
this altitude and fresh clean air.
SCOTT
Yeah, were used to contaminated
air back in D.C.
RAVEN
We're at the six thousand foot
level and we'll be climbing to
eight thousand feet. But as we're
climbing your body should get
acclimated.
SCOTT
Were you in the service?
RAVEN
Yes, I was in the Marine Recon
branch.
SCOTT
What was your specialty?
RAVEN
I was an instructor for five
years. I taught mountain and
desert survival techniques.
BASSO
Why did you quit, why not a
career soldier?
RAVEN
Not enough excitement. I think
we should start now, if we hope
to get there by dusk. I'll ride
point and Agent Scott, if you
will, ride drag.
BASSO
Are there any dangerous animals
we should be aware of?
RAVEN
Just the two footed variety.
CUT TO:
EXT. UPPER PRIEST RIVER DAY 4
EXT. LOG CABIN
Scott, Basso and Raven have removed the saddles
and gear from the horses and have placed them in a
corral. They group and head for the Log Cabin.
Deputy Raven knocks on the front door.
RAVEN
Chief Owen, it's Eric,
may we come in.
CUT TO:
INT. LOG CABIN
Everyone goes in and sits down. Chief David Owen is
a man in his late nineties who seems to be partially
blind but is quite aware of his surroundings. Raven
talks to him in Nez Perce and after a few minutes
turns around and looks at the two Agents.
RAVEN
He's willing to answer all
your questions but he's taken
a liking to your pen and would
like to trade information for it.
SCOTT
(confused)
My pen? I thought he was blind?
BASSO
Give him the pen, I have
more in my back pack.
Scott hands the pen to Chief Owen. Raven hands him
a pack of cigarettes.
BASSO
Deputy Raven, I didn't
know you smoked.
RAVEN
I don't, but he depends on
me for cigarettes.
SCOTT
Ask him if he knows where
the missing people are?
Raven speaks to Chief David Owen in his own language
and takes a few notes then turns around and addresses
Scott.
RAVEN
The chief said the missing
people are with the spirits
of his ancestors.
SCOTT
Ask him if he can tell us
where the bodies are?
Raven converses with the Chief again then speaks to
Scott.
RAVEN
The Chief said they're at the massacre
site.
SCOTT
On the drive up to the Priest Lake
Lodge we saw a Historical Monument
where the massacre occurred. Is that
the place he's talking about?
RAVEN
Yes that's it.
BASSO
Ask him if there's anything
we can do to prevent any more
people from disappearing?
Raven has a long dialog with Chief Owen.
RAVEN
He said the white people have
desecrated the burial place
of his people and removed many
skeletons. The remains are in a
government warehouse in Boise
waiting for final disposition.
He said if those remains are
returned to Priest Lake, he may
be able to convince the spirits
to stop the action they've started.
SCOTT
Tell him he has my guarantee the
remains of his ancestors will be
returned to the massacre site.
Raven translates Scott's promise to the Chief.
RAVEN
He said we must go in the SWEAT
LODGE tonight and he'll speak
to the spirits.
BASSO
Sweat Lodge, is that where they
all go in naked and communicate
with the spirits?
RAVEN
Yes, that's correct but don't
worry, it's for men only.
BASSO
Oh wonderful, it's the first
time in my life I've been
rescued by male chauvinism.
RAVEN
He want's us to get our gear
and stay in his Cabin tonight.
He says there's great danger
for white people while his
ancestors spirits are uneasy.
SCOTT
Danger as in?
RAVEN
The Chief said when the spirits
are uneasy it manifests itself
in animal behavior. Like a bear
going crazy and ripping people
apart.
CUT TO:
EXT. UPPER PRIEST RIVER NIGHT
EXT. SWEAT LODGE
Scott, Owen and Raven have removed
their clothes and are ready to enter
the sweat Lodge.
RAVEN
Chief Owen is in charge so
just do whatever I do, or
he'll be offended.
CUT TO:
INT. LOG CABIN
Everyone goes in and sits down. Chief David
Owen is now in deep meditation and starts a
steady chant. The steam coming up from the
hot rocks is like a steam bath and starts
all the men sweating profusely. He looks at
Raven and say's something.
RAVEN
He's made contact with the
spirits and they've told
him their not responsible
for the missing people.
SCOTT
(confused)
Will you please ask him to find
out from the spirits who's
responsible for the kidnappings.
Chief Owen starts his ranting and he seems to be
talking to someone. He looks at Raven again.
RAVEN
He said the spirits told him The
Aryan Nation has them.
SCOTT
Ask him if he knows where
the missing people are?
Raven speaks to Chief David Owen in his own
language and takes a few notes then turns
around and addresses Scott.
RAVEN
The chief said the missing people
are with the "GATE KEEPERS" of
the Aryan Nation.
SCOTT
Ask him if he can tell us
where they're located.
Raven converses with the Chief again then
speaks to Scott.
RAVEN
The Chief said they're at the
Aryan Compound in Sand Point.
SCOTT
Can you find out why they've
taken them?
RAVEN
He said because they wouldn't
sell their land.
Raven has a long dialog with Chief Owen.
RAVEN
He said the Aryan Nation intends
to buy all the property in the
panhandle of Idaho and make it a
White Supremacy Nation.
SCOTT
Tell the Chief thank you very
much and I'll still see what
can be done about the remains
of his ancestors being returned.
CUT TO
EXT. PRIEST LAKE IDAHO DAY
EXT. PRIEST LAKE SHERIFF DEPARTMENT
INT. OFFICE OF THE SHERIFF
Scott and Basso are in conference with Sheriff
Ward.
SCOTT
Tell me about the white
supremacy movement that's
going on up here in the
Panhandle of Idaho?
SHERIFF
Not much to say, their
territorial, fragmented,
isolated and pretty much
keep to themselves, why?
BASSO
Are they having any trouble
acquiring land for their
members?
SHERIFF
We had a little trouble last
year when one of the larger
land owners claimed he was
being threaten by the Aryan
Brother's in Sand Point.
SCOTT
Oh really, what happened?
SHERIFF
The State Police took care of
it.
BASSO
Was there a shooting?
SHERIFF
Yes, but the land owner was
just wounded and the shooter
is in the State Prison.
CUT TO
EXT. SAND POINT IDAHO DAY
EXT. STATE BUILDING
INT. OFFICE OF THE IDAHO STATE POLICE
Scott and Basso are in conference with Captain
Jason Fleming a man in his late thirties.
SCOTT
Captain tell us about the
Aryan Brothers?
CAPTAIN
It isn't anything we can't
handle ourselves. I don't
remember asking for any
help from the F.B.I.
BASSO
Were here on the kidnappings.
CAPTAIN
The Sheriff and I checked it
out and there're no clues
as to what happened to those
people.
SCOTT
We have information the missing
families refused to sell their
property to the Aryan Brothers.
Is there any truth to that?
CAPTAIN
Who told you that?
BASSO
It's not important.
CAPTAIN
The Brothers are like the
Amish in Pennsylvania, they
keep to themselves and don't
cause any trouble. All they
want is to preserve the
white race!
CUT TO
EXT. SAND POINT IDAHO DAY
EXT. BONNER'S FERRY
INT. UNITED STATES POST OFFICE BONNER'S FERRY
Scott and Basso are talking to the Postmaster
William Tuttle a man in his late fifties.
SCOTT
(showing his badge)
Were Agent's Scott and Basso.
Will you give us directions on
how to get to the Belmont Ranch?
POSTMASTER
Two miles up the road and turn
left at the first intersection.
Cant miss it.
BASSO
Thank you very much.
POSTMASTER
There's no one there, you know.
SCOTT
Do you know where James Belmont
is?
POSTMASTER
He's dead, was shot two months
ago in a deer hunting accident.
Was awful strange because those
people know how to handle guns.
BASSO
Those people? I don't understand.
POSTMASTER
Oh, I thought you knew. The family
was Nez Perce Indian. The wife died
a week later in an auto accident.
No children, so the ranch is going
up for auction by the state for back
taxes. Place is about five hundred
acres. Matter of fact the auction
is today at two o'clock.
CUT TO
EXT. SAND POINT IDAHO DAY
EXT. BONNER'S FERRY
EXT. BELMONT RANCH
Scott and Basso are talking to the Auctioneer
Charles Brown a man in his early thirties.
BROWN
Your a little late agent
Scott, the Auction is
over and the man standing
next to his car, William
McCord bought it. Sure
was a bargain too, at a
hundred dollars an acre.
Scott and Basso walk up to the man
standing next to his truck.
SCOTT
(showing his badge)
Hello there Mr McCord, were
agent's Scott and Basso.
we need to ask you a few
questions.
MCCORD
I don't have time.
BASSO
Ok, we can have you picked
up.
MCCORD
You know this is why I moved
to a god forsaken place like
this to get away from nosy
people like you two.
BASSO
Are you a member of the Aryan
Brothers?
MCCORD
Non of your damn business, now
leave me alone.
SCOTT
Failing to cooperate with a
federal officer in a felony
investigation is against the
law, and will land you in jail!
MCCORD
Ok, what do you want?
SCOTT
Did you buy the property for
yourself or your organization?
MCCORD
I never told you I was in any
organization. Who I bought it
for is non of your business.
BASSO
Why are you hostile, all we
want is a few answers, do you
have something to hide?
MCCORD
Hell no. Ok, I bought the Belmont
Ranch for the Aryan Brothers, is
there a law against it?
BASSO
Who is the head of the Aryan
brothers?
MCCORD
William Smith.
SCOTT
Will you take us to him?
MCCORD
Hell no, if you want to
talk to him, find him
yourself.
SCOTT
Basso, run his plate through
the State Police and see if he
has any outstanding warrants.
BASSO
(picking up the radio)
You got it.
McCord starts to get into his truck and
Scott holds him at gun point.
SCOTT
Hold it right there. Assume the
position.
Scott turns him around and places the hand
cuffs on.
MCCORD
What's your problem, all were
trying to do is take the land
back from Tonto and his band of
renegade Indians.
A large black truck comes down the dirt road and
stops in front of Scott, three men get out.
LARGE MAN
Hey, what the hell do you think
your doing with my brother?
Basso takes out her service pistol and aims
it at the large man.
BASSO
Back off mister, I've sixteen
rounds and so does my partner,
we only need three for you
and your goons.
LARGE MAN
This is private Property and
you don't have a search
warrant.
SCOTT
Who are you?
SMITH
I'm William Smith the leader of
the Aryan Brothers.
CUT TO
EXT. SAND POINT IDAHO DAY
EXT. SAND POINT
EXT. ARYAN BROTHER'S COMPOUND
Scott and Basso are talking to Smith and his
wife Mary.
MARY SMITH
(tray of baked goods)
Would you folk's like an apple
turnover, I just made them.
BASSO
(reaching for one)
Thank you.
SMITH
As you can see, were peaceful
people. All we want is a place
where you have white folks only.
MARY
Were tired of having to live with
blacks, greasers, chinks and Jews!
SMITH
We bought the Belmont ranch so
more of our brothers and sisters
from the lower forty eight can
come in and live in peace with us.
BASSO
We were told you and your people
are holding some families against
their will.
SMITH
That's a lie, were not holding
anyone against their will.
Do you have the names of the
families in question?
SCOTT
(showing smith a list)
Here's the list.
SMITH
(looking at list)
No, I don't recognize any of
these names. Mother do you
know any of these people?
MARY
No, I'm afraid not.
SMITH
Would you two care to see
our beautiful grounds?
SCOTT
Yes we would.
SMITH
Fine, we'll start with the
children's section.
Smith leads Scott and Basso through a group of
buildings, looking like war war II Quonset huts.
SMITH
To the left are the children's
school and playground. To the
right is the library and the
mess hall.
SCOTT
How many people do you have
here?
SMITH
About five hundred people.
SCOTT
What is your goal?
SMITH
We don't have a goal. We just
want to provide a beautiful
home for anyone that is need
of a place where you have
white people only. If we have
a non-white try to get into
this compound, we shoot them.
CUT TO:
EXT. SAND POINT IDAHO DAY
EXT. SAND POINT
EXT. ARYAN BROTHER'S COMPOUND
Scott and Basso are talking to William Smith.
SMITH
As you can see, we just want to
be left alone. I'm sorry you had
so much trouble with one of my
brothers, but he was an abused
child and he's still making
adjustments in his life.
BASSO
Don't you think that being
prejudice against other races
and religions is un-American?
SMITH
By whose standard, all the
professional positions in
America have been taken by
Jews, and now all of the
best technical jobs are taken
by Orientals. Blacks are
given managerial positions
just so the company can show
they're supporting affirmative
action, so they can land big
government contracts. Really,
when was the last time you
found a Doctor or Lawyer that
wasn't a Jew!
SCOTT
Basso, we need to start back!
SMITH
Stop sticking your head in the
sand agent Scott, wake up and
smell the coffee, someday your
job will be taken by one of
them! They're like parasites
feeding on a giant oak tree.
The tree can survive for a
while then it will die!
SCOTT
This is America, the land
of the free. America was
made up of all races and
creeds, and now you want
just one race, one creed?
SMITH
Look what the mongrels have
done to the big cities, and
look what they've done to
our public school systems.
We spend millions every year
shipping blacks to our white
schools and whites to their
black schools, and for what
so the black boys will make
it easier to marry our white
girls. How would you feel if
your daughter came home with
a black or oriental boy, Just
ask yourselves these things
agent Scott and see if you
can honestly say, it's ok!
Smith leads Scott and Basso out of the compound.
SMITH
As you can see we're a peaceful
people and want to be left alone.
I don't know where you got your
information we were holding people
against their will. The security
fence is to stop people from
coming in, not keeping people
from leaving if they wish.
CUT TO:
EXT. SANDPOINT IDAHO DAY
EXT. STATE BUILDING
INT. STATE POLICE OFFICE
Scott and Basso are talking to Captain Fleming.
SCOTT
I'm afraid we've hit an impasse
in our investigation. I don't
agree with the Aryan Brothers
doctrine, but I can see their
point. I wonder how Smith would
feel if he found out his mother
was Jewish.
FLEMING
While you and Agent Basso were
out rousting the "Skin Heads"
we lost another family last
night. However, we do have
an eye witness, who saw it
happen.
SCOTT
When can we talk to them?
FLEMING
It's a family out on the west
shoreline of Pend Oreille Lake.
BASSO
Give us directions and we'll
leave immediately!
FLEMING
This is not an ordinary type
of kidnapping.
SCOTT
May we borrow one of your
artists so we can get a
sketch of the kidnapper?
FLEMING
An artist wouldn't do you
any good in this case. You
see they were abducted by
Aliens!
