The Electric Misanthrope is a cynical person who reviews books, films, TV series, and other things that she finds within reach. She doesn't praise something just because everyone else does or condemn something just because that's the chic thing to do. `Know thy critic' is an important rule: the Misanthrope is a woman in her early twenties, U.S. citizen, Catholic, with a hearty contempt for politics of all affiliations. With regard to arts and entertainment, she believes that all Death Stars should be blown up, all vampires staked, and all dragons stabbed through the heart with a magic sword. Her favorite formulation is the Three Laws of Entertainment: until proven otherwise, all TV producers are crooks, all writers are hacks and all actors are morons. You won't find too many critical darlings here, and you'll find no "slice of life" movies, books, or series. Fantasy, science fiction, mystery - even the odd swashbuckler or gothic tale - are all represented here. The banal, the supposedly realistic, the conventional, don't get much room at this address.
