Disney's Animal Kingdom Magazine Information

April 1999

Disney has started a new magazine, Disney's Animal Kingdom magazine.
The 118 page "Preview Issue" is available now in the U.S.A. at most magazine stands, including bookstores and discount stores, it's cover priced at $2.95 US, $3.95 Canada.

It's not an advertorial for Walt Disney World's Animal Kingdom Theme Park (there are two articles). It is inspired by Disney's Animal Kingdom, by the "park's ability to excite families about animals and conservation". Experts from DAK have helped guide the magazine's research.
The Editor's Letter states "On every page, Disney's Animal Kingdom Magazine is an adventure for families who love animals. Through stories and pictures that inspire and amaze, you get to meet the creatures that share our earth and the heroic people who protect them." In fact, 80 of the 118 pages are filled with full-color photos. Most of them are spectactular and can challenge National Geographic in quality. Unfortunately the paper stock that was used is more 'high quality newsprint' than 'glossy magazine stock', which means that you do get bleed between pages.

My recommendation is that if you like to read about and see great pictures about animals of all types, pick up a copy of Disney's Animal Kingdom magazine. If you're looking for insider information about the Disney's Animal Kingdom theme park, that's not this magazine's intent.

Can't get enough of Disney's Safaris? On page 92, in Newsletter (right after the article on DAK Asia), there is an announcement of custom Disney safaris to South African game reserves, led by Rick Barongi, Director of Animal Programs Development at Disney's Animal Kingdom. Limited to 12 per trip, Disney's Africa Safaris begin with pretrip orientation and photography training at WDW before decamping to South Africa for 11 days. Call 407-939-2450 for details.
