Howdy, all!
Be warned, this page takes A LONG TIME to load!!!
Last count, danged near 3 minutes. But heckers, I am worth it!!! =)
Sit back, relax, or better yet, go the kitchen, and go grab your favorite beverage as you wait for it. There will be a new update soon, so just hang on until then, otay, Folks?
This old Knight has been putting this off long enough, so I will now stop the procrastination, and start the process.
Welcome to my world. Just click on any of the buttons to hear some sounds I like, or forget them if you wish =).
Hookie-Dookie. This is a song I really like. Helps if you have Crescendo downloaded. Turn it off if you wish. =)
Basics: I am a male(at least I was the last time I looked!), 40 years old now. Been widowed for just over 13 years, but I have a wonderful son, The Turkeybone. I teach junior high math, and coach wrestling,
tennis, and football. I also am very active in all of my son's sports, and I coach them also. Everything from his wrestling, tennis, and even soccer. **LOL** Half the kids in town either call me Coach, or Richie's Dad!! These pictures are a couple
of years old, and therefore out of date. The link down below has our most current.
Click here for a sound clip of my voice, if you have about 5 minutes to download the danged thing. =)
The Formative Years: Let's see. I was born in Rock Springs, Wyoming, grew up (well, physically, at least), and still live here. It was the best place to be then, wide open areas, small town, great folks.
Then the power plant was built, the population soared, and the big town(population 20,000) problems begain. Luckily, that was just before my college years at, you guessed it, University of Wyoming, a whole whopping 200 miles away! Geez, that was the funnest period of my life, as my freshman GPA of 2.09 will attest to!! I finally graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Secondary Math in 1986, with around 60 extra hours. Yeah, I know, but don't hold it against me!! And yes, I realize that makes me a certified BS'er, which everyone here will attest to!!! =)
Right out of college, I was hired to teach at the very same junior high I attended when it opened back in 1976, White Mountain Junior High. It was really an eye opener, to find out how much things had changed!! But I must have liked it enough, as I am still here today. I still know which desk I sat at from my old days. Downside to that is the fact that everyone remembers just how much of a squirrel I used to be, and my friends are now the parents of the kids I am teaching!!
I was married in 1987, to a wonderful lady, Pamela Mae Jack Jenlink. Though we had to live on opposite sides of the state (Wyoming had some funny rules about 2 married math teachers, teaching in the same school), we got to see each other on the weekends. **LOL** We must have been pretty successful, as we managed to conceive the Turkeybone.
In 1988, he made his triumphant appearrance on July 29th, at 3:12 PM. Yes, I was there for the whole thing, and NO, I didn't pass out or get sick! It was amazing, to watch his entrance to the world, to feel his fiestiness, and helplessness, all at the same time. To count all of his toes and fingers, and to know I helped to create this wonderful life. Pam and I shared his birth, and though I lost her the next evening, it was the most precious gift that anyone has ever given me.
Lately, teaching is consuming much of my time, as is the coaching, and taking care of my Turkeybone. =)
The Turkeybone: The Sunshine of my world! 17 years old, sometimes TOO much his father's son. Loves reading, math, Nintendo. He has his own dog, The Black Beast (Austrian shepherd/border collie mix), that loves him
danged near as much as he loves it!! Problem is, it has cost me more in Dog Pound fees than all of the rest of my "pure bred" Shelties cost me to buy combined! He loves his reading, math, cartoons, internet, Nintendo, wrestling, soccer, swimming, football, Age of Empires and anything that generally gets on Dad's nerves! This is his picture, from 4 years ago. =)
Personal Philosophies: I am always amazed at this world we live in. Within a few seconds, and at the cost of a few pennies a day, I chat with people from Portugal, Canada, Greater Britania, the world! The advances we have made, however, have somehow bred a contempt for the "Old Fashioned" work ethics that allowed us to make the advances in the first place. Ergo: Calculators have become the norm for allowing us to more quickly, and efficiently handle complicated math problems, with hand-held computers, and full-fledged computers dragging us towards the 21st century. Yet, instead of being grateful for their use, I witness far too many of the newer generation gripe about having to do any work in the first place, or even worse, misapplying these wonderful tools to do the work that their brains should do (Can you say, "5 + 8 = 13?").
But, then, we live in a world increasingly more controlled and dominated by computers!! Heckers, all I have figured out is how to turn the danged thing on, run grades, and chat half the night away!! =P~
You wanta know something, while I am on this topic? I can distinctly remember how unusual it was to meet different cultures here less than 22 years ago. How shocked I was, when I went to the University of Wyoming, to find people from foreign cultures, different areas of the country, or even just a different county. Now, with a few keystrokes, I can access them in an instant. BAWAHHHAAAA!!
Maybe I am just getting old??
Naaaaaaa!!!
Hey, some of that above is getting old. Click here for some recent photos.
Wish list for the future: I would love to return to the traditional family life, but there seems to be no such possibility in the near future. Well, maybe at the end of the teaching season. Or, sooner, if there are any volunteers. Heh, heh, heh.
Things I like: Cold beer, warm beds. Snowy nights, warm hugs. Puppies and children. My rose plants, and my old pickups. Babies, and driving out through the hills (mountains to most), and finding an area I didn't know about or revisiting an old place, especially during nights of a full moon, while it is snowing. Picnics. Coaching and teaching; watching that special spark of understanding happen. Talking. Massaging. And, being out of the kiddies path for a few moments for some intimacy!!
<
Things I dislike: Drug abuse, Mental/Physical abuse. Uninvolved parents. Mind games. People with no humor. Poachers, and the most disgusting of all, the chronic liar!!!!
What, you want some poetry or something?? No way, Sparky!! I am about as talented as that danged rock you tripped over last week!! Well, at least that is what I claim! Wait until you know me better, then I might let you know some more about me. Or give me a few beers.
Okay, this isn't mine. I admit it fully. It was written by a wonderfully talented lady, Gloriana. Here it is:
A line or an angle
...knowledge to untangle
A minus or plus
..to teach them...he must
For he is their mentor
..their instructor
...their friend
For him and for them
The adventure has no end
A man and his dog were walking along a road. The man was enjoying the scenery, when it
suddenly occurred to him that he was dead. He
remembered dying, and that the dog had been dead for years. He wondered where the road was
leading them. After a while, they came to a high, white stone wall along one side of the
road. It looked like fine marble. At the top of a long hill, it was broken by a tall arch that
glowed in the sunlight. When he was standing before it, he saw a magnificent gate in the arch
that looked like mother of pearl, and the street that led to the gate looked like pure gold.
He and the dog walked toward the gate, and as he got closer, he saw a man at a desk to one
side. When he was close enough, he called out, "Excuse me, where are we?" This is Heaven,
sir," the man answered.
Wow! Would you happen to have some water?" the man asked.
Of course, sir. Come right in, and I'll have some ice water brought
right up." The man gestured, and the gate began to open.
Can my friend," gesturing toward his dog, "come in, too?" the traveler asked. I'm sorry, sir,
but we don't accept pets."
The man thought a moment and then turned back toward the road and
continued the way he had been going. After another long walk, and at the top of another long
hill, he came to a dirt road which led through a farm gate that looked as if it had never been
closed. There was no fence. As he approached the gate, he saw a man inside, leaning against a
tree and reading a book.
Excuse me!" he called to the reader. "Do you have any water?"
Yeah, sure, there's a pump over there" The man pointed to a place that
couldn't be seen from outside the gate. "Come on in."
"How about my friend here?" the traveler gestured to the dog.
There should be a bowl by the pump."
They went through the gate, and sure enough, there was an old fashioned hand pump with a bowl
beside it. The traveler filled the bowl and took a long drink himself, then he gave some to
the dog. When they were full,he and the dog walked back toward the man who was standing by the
tree waiting for them.
"What do you call this place?" the traveler asked. "This is Heaven,"
was the answer. "Well, that's confusing," the traveler said. "The man down the road said that
was Heaven, too." "Oh, you mean the place with the gold street and pearly gates? Nope.
That's Hell."
"Doesn't it make you mad for them to use your name like that?"
"No. I can see how you might think so, but we're just happy that they
screen out the folks who'll leave their best friends behind."
