CAREY DAVID TOLLE

OBITUARY

God sees when the footsteps falter
When the pathway has grown too steep
Then He touches the weary eyelids
And gives his dear one sleep.

Carey David Tolle, son of Noah and Anne McClanahan Tolle, was born April 10, 1893, in Adams County, and departed this life on March 29, 1974, at the age of 80 years, 11 months, and 19 days.
On December 11, 1920, at West Union, Ohio, he was united in marriage to Edna Faye Caplinger. God gave them over 53 years together. To this union three sons and two daughters were born: Gerald, who preceded his father in death in 1968; Alton Meryl of Sciotoville; Carey Jr of Peebles; Mrs Jean Potts of Springboro, Ohio; and Mrs Anne Thomas of Peebles. He leaves 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren to whom he was devoted, and also five brothers and two sisters: Herman and John of Peebles; Charles of Rarden; Dorse of Waverly; Jesse of New Burlington; Mrs. Vina George and Mrs Molly Barney, both of Willmington.
Besides his son, he was preceded in death by his mother and father, three brothers, and one sister.
Carey will be remembered as a quiet, gentle, peaceful man who loved his family. Besides loving and caring for his family, he also served his county. He was awarded a purple heart for his service in the United States Army during World War I.
Although he was not a member of any particular church, Carey acknowledged that he knew Jesus Christ personally as his Saviour. Therefore, although his family will greatly miss him, he left them with a peaceful, calm asurance for he quietly took hold of his Saviour's hand and went to be with Him.

He would not want the ones he loved,
To grieve for him today;
We must not think that he is dead,
For he is just away.

Away upon a journey,
To a land that is bright and fair;
And though we all miss him here,
We know he is happy there.

And memories of him will bring
New comfort every day
As we recall he is not dead,
For he is just away.

There is a land so bright and fair,
Across death's dark sea;
Where he is waiting there
From sorrow and pain set free.

When I shall cross over the dark rolling tide
Oh, what a glad meeting it will be.
For just inside the beautiful gate,
He will be waiting and watching for me.

HERMAN LEONARD TOLLE

OBITUARY

Í am the resurrection, and the life; he that believeth in Me, though he were dead, yet shall he live; and whosoever liveth and believeth in Me shall never die."
Herman Leonard Tolle, son of Noah and Anna McClanahan Tolle, was born in the Cedar Fork community, near Peebles, on October 30, 1894. In the early morning hours of January 19, 1979, he answered his Master's call in the Adams County Hospital, having attained the age of 84 years, two months and 19 days.
On November 2, 1927, he was united in marriage with Grace Workman at Louisa, Kentucky. For more than 51 years they were permitted to walk life's pathway together, sharing all the joys and sorrows that every married couple encounters. They had the honor and pleasure of celebrating their golden wedding anniversary in 1977.
Fifteen children came to bless their home. Together with his wife, twelve of the children survive. They are, ten sons, Eugene of Layton, Utah, Tom, Floyd, Carl and Herman Junior, all of Peebles, Robert of Anaheim, California, Berlin and Harley both of Jamestown, Ohio, Mack serving with the U.S. Army in Germany, and Norman of Savannah, Georgia; two daughters, Mrs. Mary Littlefield of Sullivan Missouri, and Mrs Janice Smith of Peebles. Three children, Lucille, Roland and Vernie, died in infancy.
Besides his wife and children, he leaves 25 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; also four brothers, John of Peebles, Charles of Rarden, Dorse of Waverly and Jess of Wilmington, Ohio, and two sisters, Mrs Vina George and Mrs Mollie Barney, both of Wilmington, Ohio. A number of nieces, nephews and numerous other relatives and friends are left to mourn his passing.
In addition to his three children, he was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Josie, Alva, Carey and Burl and one sister, Mrs Minnie Barney.
When the United States entered into World War I, he answered his country's call to service. When the troops were shipped out for foreign service, his company was sent to France. After serving two years, he received an honorable discharge.
Herman has been a Christian for 54 years. Forty-five of those years were devoted to preaching in various churches. He was affiliated with the Sulphhur Springs United Baptist Church. He loved his church and he loved his work as a minister of the Gospel. He was faithful to both as long as his health permitted.
In our earthly lives it is pleasant to gaze upon a gorgeous sunset at the close of a beautiful day. Slowly the sun goes down, then the day's after glow can be seen all around. Likewise, life's sun has set upon that of a dedicated Christian. In the after glow of his life we see an example of true Christian living that touched many people. Today we face a loss that reaches into just as many lives. After each sunset there is a sunrise, and we know he has witnessed a new sunrise upon an eternal day in Heaven. So we do not say "good-by" to our loved on - just "goodnight".

VIOLET GENEVA (SETTY) TOLLE

OBITUARY

The waking earth in Springtime reminds us it is true,
That nothing ever really dies that is not born anew.
If we trust God's all-wise wisdom and doubt the Father never,
In His heavenly kingdom we will find there is nothing lost forever.

Violet Geneva, daughter of John and Maude Cadwallader Setty, was born on Peach Mountain, near Mineral Springs, on September 19, 1911. At one o'clock on Easter morning, April 10, 1977, the Death Angel called for her in the Adams County Hospital, West Union, Ohio. At the time of her passing she was 65 years, six months and 21 days of age.
On September 19, 1929, she was united in marriage with John Arthur Tolle at Wilmington, Ohio. For more than 47 years they were permitted to share the joys and sorrows of life.
Twelve children came to bless their home. Together with her husband, ten of the children survive. They are three sons, Chester and Jimmy, both of Peebles, and Johnny of West Union; seven daughters, Mrs Marie Hodge of Route 5, Washington Courthouse, Mrs Pearl Conway of Zanesfield, Mrs Juanita Kelly of Piqua, Mrs Naomi Snodgrass of Batavia, Mrs Eunice Burgess of Peebles, Mrs Judy Chaney of Winchester and Miss Janet Tolle at home at Peebles, Route 3.
One son, Gary, passed away on August 31, 1952 at the age of two years, and a daughter, Shirley on October 23, 1959 at the age of 12 years.
Besides her husband and children, she leaves 35 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was one of a family of 12 children. She is survived by four brothers, Robert Setty of Pleasant Plain, Chester Setty of Otway and Esto and Berlin Setty, both of Peebles. A number of nephews, nieces and other relatives and friends survive.
In addition to her two children, she was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Everett, Arthur and Cecil Setty, one sister, Mrs Lonnie Boldman, and one grandchild, Danny Dale Tolle.
About 46 years ago, she accepted Christ as her personal Savior. She loved to be in God's house, and she was regular in attendance at the Purtee Community Church as long as her health permitted.
She had been in declining health for more than a year, during which time she had to be hospitalized a number of times. All that doctors and loving hands could do was to no avail. During her illness she never complained. she was patiently awaiting the time when God would call her Home where there would be no more pain, but all would be eternal joy and happiness.
We who loved her will remember her life as one of quietness, patience, kindness, love and devotion to her home, family and friends. One of the greatest Biblical statements is Christ's words in St. John 11:25, "I am the resurrection and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live; And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die" (remainder of this obit was cut off)

"A Rose"
A rose from heaven's garden was sent to earth one day.
God picked a special rose and sent her on her way.

Into a wife and mother this special rose then grew.
He sent with her a lot of love for everyone she knew.

She was a special loving mother who gave us all her best.
But her gentle hands are folded now, she's earned her final rest.

So back to heaven's garden now tis special rose has gone to stay.
There to bloom in God's great love until that glad reunion day.
