Geese have a long history. They were domesticated in Ancient Rome,
China, and Bible Lands. When people were married in Europe, they could
expect a pair of geese as a wedding present. Geese can breed past 30
years 40 is not uncommon, and 101 is the record. Geese are raised for
meat mostly, but their also used for down and eggs as well as for
decoration and exhibition. They also make good watch dogs, a company in
my area uses white chinese and embden for this. Also, some farmers let
them weed certiant crops (strawberries, corn, cotton, ect) for some
reason, they leave the crop, and eat the weeds.
