Teaching Fire Safety by the Books
In October of 1991, Reno County Fire District 2 came up with a new idea to reach out to children to teach them about fire safety. A set of 34 books were bought and a bookcase that looks like a real live fire truck was build and donated to the Hutchinson Public Library. The kids can sit inside the bookcase and read about fire safety and imagine they are in a real fire truck. At times, on duty firefighters go into the library to read to the children and talk about fire safety. We have found this to be very rewarding to our public.
In February 1999, one of these bookshelves was sent to the Grand Forks, SD public library. The personnel of Reno County Fire District #2 felt this was a way for them to assist Grand Forks replace books that were destroyed during their flood. The bookshelf was painted to resemble a truck from Grand Forks. Books on fire safety were also included.
The picture shown is the bookshelf after painting was completed for the Grand Forks library.

MDA
Reno County Fire District #2 held their annual boot block to raise money for the MDA. Donations were accepted at both of the stations from drivers as they drove by.
