Some Inspirational Places I've Found
On the Humorous Side
|
So, I have learned that the most effective way to deal with all that RETT entails is to have a huge sense of humor. Sometimes mine may border on the "sick" side, but it does help me get through those baaaad RETT days. Abraham Lincoln said it best:
Robert Louis Stevenson made these suggestions over 100 years ago: 1. Make up your mind to be happy - learn to find pleasure in simple things. 2. Make the best of circumstances. No one has everything and everyone has something of sorrow. 3. Don't take yourself too seriously. 4. Don't let criticism worry you - you can't please everybody. 5. Don't let your neighbors set your standards - be yourself. 6. Do things you enjoy doing but stay out of debt. 7. Don't borrow trouble. Imaginary things are harder to bear than actual ones. 8. Since hate poisons the soul, don't cherish enmities and grudges. Avoid people who make you unhappy. 9. Have many interests. If you can't travel, read about places. 10. Don't hold post-mortems or spend time brooding over sorrows and mistakes. 11. Don't be the one who never gets over things. 12. Keep busy at something. A very busy person never has time to be unhappy.
1. Make time for yourself, YOU are the most important person in your daughters life, and if you're not happy, how can she be happy? 2. Take a long walk when the stress builds too high. Walking gives you a chance to reflect on the most important things. 3. Journal . . . often if you write down your thoughts & feelings, you are able to better put your problems in perspective. 4. I take bubble baths, with a good book, a glass of wine & soft music. As I watch the bubbles go down the drain, I picture each bubble being a problem. 5. Laugh . . . this is really the best medicine for stress. Dr. Karl Meninger said it best: "Laughter is the cure for most of the ills of the world." Watch a funny movie, read a funny book, whatever will make you laugh. 6. Talk your problems over with a friend. Often they can give you insight you may not have seen. 7. Take a nap. Often if I can get an hours nap a day, I am better able to cope with anything. 8. If you can get out, take yourself to a movie or lunch. 9. Go shopping, we all deserve something new once in a while. 10. Hug or cuddle your RETT-angel. Dani brings me the greatest peace. 11. Never forget this . . . "We can't form our children on our own concepts; we must take them and love them as God gives them to us." - Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
