1. Introduction.

AN ASSESSMENT OF:   PLOT 5G, Ndola Rural Emerald Area.

DATE ASSESSED:      May 1997

Plot 5G is situated in the Ndola Rural protected area. This plot is within the Kamakanga Area and this together with other plots have been geologically mapped by different geological groups. Therefore, at the request of the management of the property an interpretative survey mapping of plot 5G was carried out in order to mark on the ground the location of the known geological theory affecting this plot.

2. Survey Mapping.
The plot is divided into three zones based on the existing theory.

ZONE A:
Description - This theory is projected at a strike of approximately 90 degrees. This theory is said to contain basic and ultra basic rock which were possibly second in importance but are good bets to emerald mineralisation if they contain quartz tourmaline veins.
Mapping - Therefore in order to establish this zone, work begun at the corner beacon (B3) and along line B3-B2. From this beacon, along line B3-B2, the Inferred Geological Boundary South (IGBS) (A) is marked at 340 metres from B3. From the IGBS(A), the centre line (CL) is placed at 222 metres. From the centre line the Inferred Geological Boundary North (IGBN)(A) is placed at 222 metres. This theory is therefore about 444 metres wide and cuts through the plot at 90 degrees from the West to East at a vertical width of 385 metres. These lines have been cut and pegs fixed at regular intervals of 50 metres.
Note - This theory has been associated with plots south of Piralla and Kamakanga areas on the described strike although in some cases this varies from North Easterly to South Westerly.

ZONE B:
Description - This theory lies on the northern tip of the plot and this too has a strike direction West to East and runs through the plot. This Zone is similar to Zone A and consists of basic and ultra basic rocks and is also associated with mineralisation in Kagem, Piralla and Kamakanga areas.
Mapping - This IGBS(B) is placed at about 145 metres from B2.

ZONE C:
Description - This theory lies on the southern tip of the plot and is similar to Zone A and Zone B in relation to the strike and rock composition.
Mapping - This IGBN(C) is placed at about 200 metres from B3 along the line B3-B4.

3. Recommendation.
Every effort has been made to map the extent of the theory on the ground. The company is therefore advised to do a systematic prospecting programme within these three zones.

All trenches sited should be cutting across the strike direction as shown in appendix II. The company should further note that the average depth in most productive areas of Ndola Rural is fifteen (15) metres. If no positive indications are noticed at this depth then the advice of a Geologist should be sought in order to determine the dip of rocks so that other trenches can be sited.

Whereas the company is advised to primarily concentrate along the centre line and in the area within Zone A an outward approach will be commendable, even in areas between zone A and Zone B and between Zone A and Zone C.

4. Conclusion.
The company should keep a record of work on all trenches to be sited and should stick to the recommended siting positions. Regular consultations with a geologist are encouraged.
