Thomas Family History

According to family tradition William Thomas is the son of David Thomas
of England. This story was been past down from generation to generation.

"From the Old Thomas Bible which belonged to Grandmother Thomas.
We are direct descendants of David Thomas who emigrated to
this country before the Revolutionary War. The tradition is
told that David Thomas as a young man in England took care of
his aged grandmother and lived with her. Once when he was
approaching the house at meal time he noticed a very please odor
of something which was cooking in the kitchen, His grandmother
informed him that it was American Bacon and that there was plenty
of it in America. After eating some it tasted so well he told his
grandmother that after her death he was coming to America to eat
bacon. This promise he kept true and came to America unmarried.
He settled in Hanover Co. Virginia and married an American girl.
To this union was born two sons. One of the sons emigrated to
Greenbriar, West Virginia and was never heard of again. Billy Thomas
(son of David) who was born in 1776 moved with his parents from
Hanover to Fluvanna Co. Virginia and settled somewhere near to the
old Thomas farm where grandmother now lives."
