We practice attachment parenting, family bedding, non-punitive discipline, extended breastfeeding, we cloth diaper and we make our own baby food. We try to parent Jeffrey the natural, instinctive way!
We share our home with 6 parrots and 2 dogs, Lady, a 13 yr old mutt and Duncan, a 2 yr old Pembroke Welsh Corgi. Our newest addition: an African Fat Tail Gecko.
That's my Jeffrey! He was 22 months old in that picture, and nursing! He was born September 12, 1997. Jeffrey is a wonderful little boy. He is our first and we are so proud. We practice Attachment Parenting. He gets held a lot, and sleeps in bed with us every night. I still wear him in a sling, at times. He is breastfeeding, and may be for a long time to come! He eats what I eat...no jars of pureed baby food or baby cereal for my little boy! Right now he is not eating a lot of solid food, so its a good thing he's still nursing. He is a very happy little boy, and we plan to keep him happy. We don't believe in letting our baby "cry it out" in fact we don't allow him to cry at all if we can help it. There will be plenty of time for him to learn independence, when he is ready.
My Scarlet Macaw's name is Jitterbug and he was 5 years old on February 9th. He loves me but he tends to bite everyone else. He has a large cage and a large free standing play gym. The rest of the flock: Napoleon, a Congo African Grey; Timmy, a Timneh African Grey; Merlin, a Mealy Amazon; Tango the Blue Fronted Amazon; and Louie, the orange chin parakeet. The birds have their own room, where the cages are. Their play stands line one wall of my living room. I think it's fair to say the birds are a big part of this household! They come out onto the stands in the morning for birdie muffins and fresh fruits and veggies. Then its cage time, to play and eat pellets. In the afternoon they come back out for their beans and rice hot meal and stay out until bedtime. Then they go into their
cages for bed time snacks. Most of them are allowed to play on top of their cages for a while. During this time the macaw gets a lot of play time. He likes to be turned upside down in my arms, and I tickle his tummy. He also loves to hang by his beak from my finger.
Check out some of the links below to learn more about Attachment Parenting! Jeffrey is very healthy. We researched and made an informed decision NOT to vaccinate our baby. We believe he is far healthier without them. I urge you to do the research. Check some of the links below. And if you are in doubt about vaccinating your children, you owe it to them and to yourself to educate before you vaccinate!
My days are busy, filled with baby and pets. In addition, I love to read, write, listen to music, read email and chat with friends. I also subscribe to a few parrot-oriented and parenting email lists and newsgroups! I enjoy working on my computer. Jeffrey is usually in my lap while I work at the computer, sleeping, nursing, or trying to play with everything! He sure gets into everything. It's hard keeping this place cleaned up with our little two-legged tornado!
