-DOB & Death per Lyon Family Memorial, p.271 per research from Sherry (Lippard) Jurgens -Date of 2nd Marriage is an estimate; James Lyon Sr is called Col.J.S.Lyon in obituary of Sarah Lyon in Stokes co,NC in 1815; called his 2nd wife -Military Sevice in Henry co,VA Militia during the Revolution: on 17 Feb 1777 appointed Captain by commission; on 20 Oct 1778 appointed Major replacing Abraham Penn (promtd to Lt.Col.) on 15 Feb 1779 appointed Major by commission; on 23 Mar 1780 appointed Lt.Col. replacing Abraham Penn (promtd to Col.) on 29 Mar 1783 appointed Lt.Col. by commission from Governor of VA; -Henry co,VA Court held Aug 1779 James Lyon along with Patrick Henry, Abraham Penn, & 19 others are recommended to the Governor of VA to serve on the Commission of the Peace for Henry co,VA -At a Court held for Henry county May 1782, Lt.Col.James Lyon is granted 20/- for 100 lbs of beef for Capt. Eliphaz Shelton's company on their march against the Tories -Nearly all of the Militia units of Southern Virginia participated in the Battle of Guilford Court House in NC; Col. James Lyon & his son Lt. Stephen Lyon are believed to have been so engaged -The History of Henry co,VA is uncertain whether the Lt. Humberston Lyon, killed at the Battle of Kings Mountain,SC, was his son or his brother; based on other evidence it appears likely that it was his nephew -Recommended to the Governor along with Robert Hairston & Abraham Penn to serve as High Sheriffs of Henry co,VA; he served in this capacity 1786-1787
