Candle & Color Magick

Take a candle of the appropriate color (see the list of candle colors and their corresponding magickal properties, and white can be used as a substitute for any other color) and anoint it by rubbing on it a drop or two of myrrh, sandalwood, frankincense, or any other essential oil which you like, and/or which fits your magickal purpose. Using a straight pin, or a bolline (white-handled harvesting and cutting knife), athame (black-handled ritual knife, though, it's better to use a bolline for engraving), or any other tool, scratch your desire into the wax and then light the candle and allow it to burn it's self completely out. You should also visualize white light spot-lighting the top of your head (from heaven, the Spirit element, the deities, the Universe, or where ever) and then flowing down your arm to your fingertips, and from your projective and/or right hand, flowing into the candle before, as and after you light it, and with this, program it by visualizing your need fulfilled as if it already were. It is not really necessary to always anoint candles, but you must raise energy from you and raise and harness that of the Universe, then project it out to create needed, positive change, as this is the essence of magick. If you don't want to have the candle burn down all the way and release the magick in that way, you can extinguish the candle with a candle snuffer, place a glass over the flame, or wave it out with your hand, etc., (never blow it out, as this is said to be an insult to the Fire elements, or pinch it out, as this can pinch out the desire); then, the magickal energy is released on the rising smoke to do its work. You can also, perhaps, with this, raise your arms to the heavens and say something like: "So mote it be!" to release the raised energy from you, as well.

That's all there is to it; this is a rather simple, yet, highly effective, form of spell and magick. When you are done, when you feel the need has been answered, or when you feel that the candle is "used up", you should bury on your property if you used it to draw something to you, or off of your property if you used it to send something away, such as repelling negativity, or sending positive energy to a friend, etc. Contrary to some beliefs, you can reuse candles; it's simply a good idea to use them for relatively the same thing each time. I think what a waste it would be to bury or throw away something like a new pillar candle, or any new candle, with most of the candle remaining (especially if your funds for buying magickal supplies are limited); "Waste not, want not," etc.

It can be a good idea to check the Moon phase and/or the astrological sign that the Moon is in at the time to magick your spells more successful. Simply know the basic properties, traits and "keywords" for the zodiacal signs and which weekdays have these same properties, and you can easily figure this out (the table above lists a great deal of the weekday-astrological correspondences). Check the Esbats page to learn some of the properties of various Moon phases. However, if you are need of something right now, why on Earth wait up to a few months to do a spell during the "appropriate" conditions?
Along with candle magick, you could light a candle (especially a white candle) as a daily ritual act to focus your thoughts, relax your mind, commune with the Divine both within you and without, pray, cleanse, raise your energy, etc., perhaps, while listening to some relaxing music, and/or sitting in the evening breeze.

Color magick is surely a part of candle magick, but one way to test the effects of colors upon any situation is to wear a particular color on a certain day of the week, for different reasons (utilizing a color-correspondences chart) and to various events, and see how it effects your successes and people's reactions to you.
