TAKE A BOW

--Cheri Andrews of Moffitt passed the Nursing Staff Development Exam.
--Dr. Julie Baroso, Director of Nursing Research at Moffitt, has had an article accepted for publication in the Western Journal of Nursing Research titled "Social Support and Long-Term Survivors of Aids".
--Beth Bertelli-Whidden has published for the first time in the book Silver Linings. Her work is "The Other Side Of Cancer".
--Maureen Fox is the new Nurse Manager of the Medical, Surgical, and Oncology Divisions at Columbia Bayonet Point Regional Medical Center in Hudson.
--Sandra Holly is now officially a PHD candidate in Nursing at UF.
--Ruth Lovett has been elected President for 1997-98 of the American Assoc. of Managed Care Nurses (AAMCN)-Tampa Bay Chapter. She is also serving on the National Strategic Planning Board. Ruth works at The Hospice of Florida Suncoast, in Pinellas County, as their Provider Relations Director.
--Beth Maddox is now the Clinical Research RN of Moffitt's BMT Program.
--Mary Magdalany, who is studying for a BSN degree at USF, was recently inducted into the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society.
--Jean Nelson was elected President of the Hillsborough County Nurse's Assoc. for 1997- 98.
--Brenda Powers Gordon is the new Nurse Manager of the Oncology Program at St. Joseph Hospital after having been Nurse Manager of the Oncology Program at Lakeland Regional Medical Center.
--Monica Smiley is the new Nurse Practitioner at Woods Radiation Center at St. Joseph Hospital.
--Barb Stephenson of Moffitt was promoted to BMT Coordinator. (But now we hear is moving to West Virginia at the end of February.)
--The Thoracic Oncology Program has joined 5 South as the second Professional Practice Model area at Moffitt. Included staff are: Christine Ellis, Nancy Heise, Marge Krwyczk, and Kathy Tedford.


LOCAL ONCOLOGY NURSES TO PRESENT AT ONS CONGRESS

--Sheila Ferrail, RN, MSN, CNS at Moffitt who works primarily with Brain Tumor patients will present an abstract that she co-authored: "Brain Tumor Survival Day: A Story of Triumph and Hope".
--Deborah Borger RN, MSN, CNS on the BMTU at Moffitt, will present a poster relating the Nursing management of TTP (a blood dyscrasia seen after BMT).
--Terri Massaro RN, OCN on Moffitt's 5 South and MSN in Oncology student at USF, will present an abstract she co-authored on research focusing on the relationship between 12 hour shifts and Nursing and patient satisfaction.
--Cyndi Cramer RN, OCN, CRNI, currently self- employed in critical care and home health, has been asked to do a podium presentation based on a research project in progress: "A Comparison of PT and aPTT's Drawn From Heparinized Lines vs. Venipuncture", in which she is a co- investigator.


HAPPENINGS

The 16th Annual Research Conference co-sponsored by the College of Nursing at USF and Sigma Theta Tau is scheduled for March 7, 1997. Contact the College of Nursing for more information.

An open house for the new doctoral program at USF is being planned. This will allow th College to showcase the new doctoral curriculum as well as the faculty who will be leading it. The open house is scheduled for Friday, February 28th from 4 to 6 pm (location TBA). The deadline for the first applications will be June 1, 1997. Congratulations to USF for bringing a Doctoral Program in Nursing to Tampa!
