Capiz PNP ready for May 14 polls

By Joel E. Capundan

ROXAS CITY -- The Capiz Provincial Office, under P/Supt. Orlando Pestano, is ready for the May 14, 2001 elections.

Pestano, in an interview with the local media here, said the provincial police office will put up many checkpoints, particularly in the towns known to be "hot spots" because of intense political rivalry.

The provincial director added that the Capiz PNP will be augmented by the PNP personnel from the regional office to be assigned in said "hot spot" towns to avoid possible election-related incidents during the May 14 polls.

Pesta¤o stressed that the PNP personnel who will assigned to said areas will also be able to help prevent the presence of communist insurgents during the polls.

He assured that the PNP personnel are neutral in the elections and are only bent to help realize a peaceful, honest and credible election.

The provincial police director likewise observed that the Capiz PNP Office has nothing to do with the complaint of Cuartero PNP personnel for not having a patrol car for the upland barangays. The Cuartero PNP has only an auto patrol which could not be used for patrolling in the upland barangays.

He said the provincial office is willing to give its 50% counterpart for the patrol car but the Cuartero municipal government refused to give its share.
