Fab 5

At the Time i lived in Texas, and if you lived in Texas and were a highschool basketball fan you knew the name Jimmy King. Jimmy was no doubt the best player that year to come out of the lone star state. Another big Texas star was Ray Jackson. So it was a surprise and a delight to find out they had signed on with the same college and were going to be playing together. The number one player in the nation was Chris Webber, he also signed with the same college, along with best friend and another star out of the state of Michigan Jalen Rose. Then There was Juwan Howard, the number one player out of Chicago. They all signed with the Michigan Wolverines making them without a doubt the greatest recruiting class of all time. Chris Webber, Huwan Howard, Jalen Rose, Jimmy King and Ray Jackson were soon nicknamed, THE FAB 5. For Jalen Rose and Chris Webber, they fullfilled they're dream of playing together at Michigan. They were Highschool rivals, but best friends, and when they both signed with Michigan, it was dream come true. The Fab 5 shocked the world they're freshman year when they all 5 started for Michigan and lead them all the way to the National Championship against Duke, Even though they lost, They turned some heads and had everyone loving the Fab 5, they started the basketball trend of Baggy shorts. They were known for they're wild style and trashtalking, but the very next season they were looked at as bad guys. Just a year after the Fab 5 captured the hearts of the basketball world , the very things that people loved became something to pick at. It was basically said that college basketball was no place for the loud mouth, cocky ,baggy pants , the things that made the Fab 5 so popular. Michigan had an alright year, of course made the tournament and had a rocky road to the final 4, seemed as if everyone hated the fab 5 and were coming at them with everything they had. From UCLA to George Washington University to Temple, but the Fab 5 put on they're most impressive victory yet over Jamal Mashburn and Kentucky in the Final Four. They would go on to face North Carolina for the National Championship for the second straight year, and the talk was all over about this probaly being the Fab 5's last chance to win a championship together. There were rumors that Chris would leave college early and turn pro following the season. Michigan put on a tremedous game, and with 11 secons left in the game Michigan had a chance to win the game...Webber dribbled down court and obvoisly traveled, but The refs didn't see it, that could cost NC the game...but with 11 seconds left Webber turned and called a time-out...the Michigan coaches yelled at Webber, the bench yelled at Webber, fans at home yelled at they're TV. Michigan used all they're time-outs and had none. This resulted in a techniqal fall, NC got two free-throws and the ball, the game was over. Webber had cost Michigan the game by calling a time-out when Michigan didn't have one. Something that still haunts Chris and his fans to this day. Well Webber indeed went Pro the following year, and the Fab 5 were no more. Webber was drafted by the Orlando Magic, and of course was excited about playing along side Shaq, but bout an hour later was traded on the spot in the draft to the Golden State Warriors for Penny Hardaway. the Next year Juwan and Jalen went Pro, Juwan was drafted by the Washington Bullts(Wizards), and Jalen by the Denver Nuggets, but then later on in his career was traded to the Indiana Pacers, where he has made his home and still plays for them today. Now here comes a surprise, Webber on the other hand 2 or 3 years later was traded to the Washington Wizards, yes the same team as Juwan Howard. It was great to the see the two back together, but it didn't last long..about 2 years later Chris and Juwan were in trouble with the Law, and Washington was quick to trade Chris to the Sacramento Kings. Years later Juwan was traded to the Dallas Mavericks. So with Juwan in Dallas, Jalen in Indiana, and Chris in Sacramento, your probaly wondering what ever Jimmy King and Ray Jackson, last i heard they were ballin in the CBA. Last i heard Jimmy was really tearin it up I Heard he was an MVP canidate a couple years ago. even though they have all had great success, they still dream of one day re-uniting in the NBA.
